History of Telehubs
In early 2006 Linden Labs introduced "point to point"
p2p) teleporting to people, and places.Befor this every time you teleported, it'd send you to the nearest telehub, and you'd fly the rest of the way.
Each telehub served a "region" in SL, some responsible for serving 100's of sims.
As you can imagion, land around these areas was populare for malls and shops. Prices were high for the time.
Once telehubs were taken out of SL, the Lindens replaced them with "Infohubs", which served as a central point to get news, rules, "how to" guides, and free items.
After a few months of this, LL took them out of SL as well, promicing to keep the historical land protected.
In early 2007 they broke theri promice, and auctioned off the land.
At this time few, but the older users, know what telehubs were, or the historical role they had in comunity development.
Most telehubs have been chopped into smaller lots, and sold off, few becoming perminatly destroyed by 16M ad farmers.
*Sadly, no known list was made on all the locations of telehubs, so they can be preserved. As time marches on, it is feared they will all be forgotten, and the land they were on destroyed.*
