Introducing SkyBeam FirstLand
Once upon a time, Linden Lab offered First Land to new residents. These were 512m2 lots and were available to any resident who had never owned land in SL before. The lots sold for $L 1 per m2 (total purchase price for one lot $L 512). These were standard lots (with standard prim counts) on brand new mainland sims, some were flat, some were hilly, some were green, some were dirt, some were snow, and one could never plan on which would be available when one was ready to buy one. The lots were limited to one ever per resident and, of course, you had to be a premium account holder. This program was discontinued in late 2006 and then there were none.
Mainland prices have risen to the point where getting that first plot of land to own, play and experiment with has become less attractive to the new, casual user, who just wants to know what its all about. With mainland 512m2 lots starting around $L 5200 (many even higher) and required premium membership (9.95 usd per month), it quickly becomes a significant investment just to find out what its all about, what you can do with the prims allotted, if you really want to have a home here, how the terraforming tools work, or if your business idea is going to work.
SkyBeam Estates is introducing SkyBeam FirstLand as a low cost, lower commitment alternative.
Security Deposit:* $L 512
Rent: $L 600/wk ($9 usd/mth)
Lot size: 512 m2
Prims: Double (234)
The lots in SkyBeam FirstLand will be double prim lots, giving a 512m2 lot 234 prims instead of the standard 117. There will be a security deposit of $L 512 in keeping with the LL First Land tradition. This deposit will be refunded when a resident leaves*. The lots are grouped in adjacent pairs and any individual or group may rent up to two plots, which may be adjacent or separate.
The rental tier fee for these double prim 512 lots is $9 (USD) per month ($L 600 per week), slightly lower than the premium membership required in order to own a 512 standard prim lot on the mainland.
When the $L512 deposit is paid, the land will transfer into your name (or into your group’s name if you ‘buy for group’ or have me deed the property to group for you). You will have all the rights to this land accorded all land owners, save the right to resell the property. The hope is to continue to keep these properties as a low cost starting place on into the future.
