That post makes no sense, she lost 5 plots of land because chat recording devices? Huh?
and plus that means nothing, until the Lindens say public chat recording is legal, it isnt.

i hope she's okay BTW, I can't come up with something that would be so important that it has to be said over open chat.

Sounds to me like this person contributed land (that he paid for) to a group, and then an officer of the group took the land out from under them.
That's what happens, I guess. This is not a LL problem. This is an individual problem with that person. I suppose he could sue, but since property in Second Life has no value (according to LL), what's there to sue for?

Open chat is also, by definition, public. You just can't use recorders unless you are present at the time..

Since when was open chat EVER private? By definition, it's "open" because everyone in the vicinity can hear it. If you don't want something heard, don't say it out loud. It's that simple.
As for recording someone's chat without their knowledge, that is and always has been against the rules. That doesn't mean people won't still do it though. It's against the law for someone to enter my house without permission, but that doesn't mean I don't keep my front door locked. A little common sense goes a long way in RL and in SL.
Anyway, that person's post is so nonsensical, the only part of it I believe is the mental hospital thing. The author's emotional state is clearly well outside of normal, so it's safe to assume his/her perceptions can't be taken at face value. Sounds to me like the person lost some land by trusting the wrong people, had a bit of an emotional breakdown over it, and then his/her brain went to work to justify the overwhelming feelings by finding a scapegoat on which to blame the whole fiasco, namely Linden Lab and some alleged (possibly imagined) chat recording device.
I hope the author gets better. Sounds like it was quite a psychiatric injury.

So he's mad at the Lindens because he trusted someone he didn't know too much?
Who put the land under the group name? Who invited an officer that could sell it? Who set the land for sale?
Stop passing the buck.

From: Richie Waves Anxiety attacks are cruel masters.. I've known several people who've had to deal with frequent and/or overpowering anxiety attacks, and it's no joke. Hard to understand for someone who's never experienced it maybe, but not to be laughed away. Having said that, I don't believe that there is any actionable offense there. The whole situation sounds unfortunate, but there doesn't seem to be anything actually illegal going on. -------- P.S.: I do have to wonder, without any sarcasm intended, why a person with an anxiety disorder would choose to do something as drama-riddled as SL.
