I was afraid to brake my anonymity, afraid of being judge.I see how some people can be judgemental here in the forum. This is a big step for me doing this.

I have 16 year from drugs and alcohol. What I am looking to do is start a meeting here in Secondlife. So If anyone is interested in helping me start a meeting. Leave me a message here in the forum or IM in game.

Thank you

April Chung

I'm not recovering or in need of it, but I did want to offer you support and hugs! I actually think AA and NA in SL is a great idea. One of the few places you can go 24/7 for support :) Good luck!

i've known of a couple throughout the past (almost) two years..
i can't remember the names of them though..

and yes, i think groups for this would be a great idea within SL!! as long as it was handled delicately and lead with a level-headed benevolence.

..and, 16 years? awesome! congrats on your success! :)

Anyway..so proud of you darling! And I would also offer my services and support!

6 years here.

Virtual AA/NA meetings would be interesting.

I remember when I first joined SL, I debated the impact of my SL character having a virtual drink.

A Thought or Two
09-06-2005 18:13
My experience with alcoholism has taught me that for many addicts they may give up drinking or drugging but often (certainly not always) find another addiction to take the place of the 'main' one. Most alcoholics I know do not know the meaning of the word moderation.

I guess my concern about holding A.A. meetings in Second Life is that so many are seemingly addicted to the game/world.

Best of luck with your venture should you decide to go ahead with it.

Congratulations April!

I have many friends that quit drinking / drugs and even after years it is one day at a time for most of them. Many others could no longer handle being around old friends or going out any more for fear of being around booze and drugs.

Quitting is a significant accomplishment and a drastic life changing event that can be impossible for many to handle. My hat off to you and all those that have managed.

Let me know if you get the meetings going. I'd like to attend.

One more day...

SL AA/NA Meetings begin 11-22
11-18-2005 22:55
Beginning Tuesday, November 22, there will be organizing meetings for a SL AA/NA Group, Friends of Bill W. At first we may have to combine the two meetings until we get this off the ground. However, maybe there will be enough folks with an interest in each group to make it feasible to start both groups right away. For the first week I'll be available at 8:00 game time for organizational meetings and a real meeting if folks want to have it...just takes 2 of us to make a meeting, you know...lol You'll need to contact me to get a landmark. By the second week we'll probably be able to tell how often folks want to meet and what time is the best time. So holler at me ig and let me know you're interested.

Please Join Friends of Bill W.

I am proud to be assisting in getting an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting schedule set up so you can take SL one day at a time.

Members are hidden to protect anonymity, it is open membership for those who desire to get or stay sober.

From: someone

Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

We still need to get permission from AA, and set meeting times, but join now to contribute your own experiences or to find support.

EDIT: Cara beat me =)

Good luck. You might find advice that will help you if you listen to Jezza, or at least people to identify with. Go to www.capitalfm.com and look for "Jeremy Kyle Show." I've been listening since 2003 and I think he really does help people and listen to them (as opposed to Love Line here in the states, which is more funny than genuinely helpful... but also more of the callers are imbeciles here in the states). The podcasts are on that site too as well as archives of best callers.

I've been in AA for a while but am new to SL. Did this meeting get going? If did where and when is it and how do I find it?

Thanks,
