They will cheat on you every time...and try to cover it up by simply flipping themselves:

From Webroot's site:

And from Iomega's site:

Are you sure it's not royalty-free stock art? We had several disks of stock photos to use in print ads for the yellow pages... just wondering. :)

It probably is :) I'm just being silly. I always find stock art kind of smarmy anyway, so to see it on two different sites was funny.

Chances are its just a stock photo. The company I used to work for in Florida had something like 400-500 stock photo DVDs plus some ungodly huge credit limit with GettyImages.com.

AS A MATTER OF FACT, I just searched GettyImages.com for "server people" and on page 4 of 4 is that exact picture, image number 200022154-001 from the royalt-free CD collection "Photodisc Red". (image attached)

That's why my company hires photographers to take photos - so you don't see the same thing on a dozen sites out there.

It happens in just about any industry that has a presence on the internet. Even the one that I am in, which can get rather hard to explain even though I own the liscense to the pictures that I use. This doesn't mean that someone else hasn't purchased them as well. Juro has it right, if you don't want to look like everyone else, hire a photographer and use your own pictures. Only problem with that is unfortunately people like to "snag" stuff off the internet and use it for their own. Which will almost make it impossible to find unless you happen upon it or if the webmaster at the other company is stupid enough to link directly to your picture and is using up your bandwith on your server (yes this has happened to me, flippin morons!).

I hear your pain, there used to be a website called URSUX that hunted down the culprits and put their shameful lack of imagination out for all to see the original and pirate versions. They've since shut down unfortunately, but it was good to know someone was trying to encourage creativity, if a bit caustically.

The stock image thing, I would SO rather get my own image to start and or at least significantly alter the purchased/legal stock image such that a semblance of individuality is retained. But that's just me.

It's not like there aren't tons of creative, worthwhile graphics type folks out there to hire, right?

Even worse, they are both probably premade website templates modified to their needs.

Eh, who cares about someone suddenly becoming left/right - handed when it's a picture? And how many people complained when Kirk's Starfleet insignia suddenly jumped to his right side? One, the guy who wrote "The Nitpicker's Guide to Star Trek".

Actually, I've always found flips in film *very *distracting. I tend to notice them right away, and for some reason I can't explain it really bugs me.

Yes there is and I am one of them. But what chaps my hide is when people snag my orginal graphics and claim it to be their own. I mean the EXACT same thing, not their attempt to copy it themselves.

Personally, I am wondering why the entire IT department can stand around, arms akimbo, with, seemingly, nothing better to do. Doesn't someone need a new monitor?

Old IT mantra: If your IT manager can afford to spend all day surfing the 'net for pron - he's doing an excellent job.

When he spends 9to5 running around busy busy busy - fire him for incompetence.
