The End Of GOM And Poor Customer Service

GOM is going out of business (in its current capacity). The Saturday before it closed down trading I sold approximately $20 worth of L$ to them. Now before it took at most a day or two to see my money. In fact the website always said that you would see your money within 2 days. As of today at noon, I still have not received that money.
At various times over the last few weeks I have sent messages to Jamie Hale from GOM about this. The messages started out polite and remained polite (on my end at least). I did use a little sarcasm to make a point. Here are the messages in all their glory:

MESSAGE 1 (October 8th) - Remember I Sold The L$ On The 1st Of October

My name is Michael Revere (in game). Account is <deleted for my protection>. I withdrew $19+ dollars on Saturday and still have not seen that hit my PayPal account. Any ideas as to why?

MESSAGE 1 Reply From Jamie
Sure, we're swamped. Plus, when you cancelled and re-placed your withdrawal request, you went to the back of the line. :(

If you check your account page, you'll see your ranking in the withdrawal queue.

J

MESSAGE 2 (Oct 8th):

Jamie,
Thanks for getting back to me. That's what I get for being grumpy ;-). Take care.
-Mike

MESSAGE 3 (Oct 12th) - OK, this message borders on rude:

Jamie,
Are you going to be paying interest on my money which you have kept for the last 12 days? It never took this amount of time in the past to get money. The withdraw queue was only 400+ requests. If you have collected the money from my L$ sale you obviouly have the money. Are you really going to be paying that money or should I just write it off and move on.
-Mike

MESSAGE 3 REPLY FROM JAMIE:

Interest? No.

Look, do the math. 400 requests. Maybe 3 minutes each. That's 20 hours
of work. This past weekend was Thanksgiving for us in Canada. That
means most of the weekend was shot for both of us as we both have both
sets of family in the city.

Beyond this, I don't really feel I need to justify my actions to you.
You'll get your $20 the same way everyone else has and will.

MESSAGE 4:

So 20 hours of work. That is uhhhhh, hmmmm, less than 3 work days. I don't mean to be a butthead Jamie but if I ran my business that way I would have no customers. Does not mean much to you since you are going out of business I realize. Sorry for pissing you off but your customers used you because of your reliability. This is just not very reliable behaviour.

MESSAGE 5:

Again, sorry you're not satified with our service. To be fair and
"reliable" to *all* our customers, your withdrawal will be processed
in the order in which it was received.

J

To be fair his last message was nice enough but message 3 hmmmm. I guess I was pretty rude with the interest tack. That being said, how long does it take?

A bit snippy on both sides in the middle there. :)

Being Canadian though I know how much of a write-off the Thanksgiving weekend can be. It's a long weekend sometimes with two huge dinners involving wine and turkey. :D
(might just as well take sedatives for two days)

Dianne,
I understand that, there were however 8 days before that to fulfill obligations to their customers.

I think under the circumstances it's prefectly understandable for them to be slow, especially if it was a holiday weekend. I say cut the poor guy some slack. We're only talking about $20, right? Send Jamie another email telling him to keep it and buy some beer with it!

Chip,
That might not be such a bad idea. I'm sure it is rough losing a business. It just happened to me so I know it can be hard (especially if it happens because of a arbitrary decision of business partners).

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that I was just being a big jerk. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Next time you want to just give away money to people you don't know. Give it to me.

If they did Mass Pay with Paypal like they promised us months ago, they could have done this much faster. Commenting on their lack of business vision though is like beating a dead horse so I will stop here.

Yeah I was dwelling on the positive.

I have also probably gotten crankier myself over even less, but right now I am all about appearing to be "above it all." :D

The real message (and no I dont always take this kind of advice myself), is that it's really only 20 bucks and there is no indication that you wont (eventually) get it. Just a more florid way of saying "chill" I guess. :)

I totally agree with you Dianne. I was over reacting. ;-) So much for the predicted flame war ;-)
