For birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts, I've recieved all manner of new computer parts, DVD players and other electronic toys. I've always been very happy with them, especially since my husband has a lot more technical knowledge than I do, and it's something I probably wouldn't go out and buy for myself.
I've never been a fan of jewelry, and I prefer to pick my clothing and shoes for myself, because I have particular tastes. That may have something to do with why a lot of women are leaning toward less 'intimate' or 'personal' preference in gifts. (Explaining why you love one little black dress but hate another is not as easy as saying, "I want a giant flatscreen TV." and knowing someone will be able to choose the best one based on stats, rather than personal taste.) For my upcoming birthday, I'm hoping for a really good WACOM tablet, rather than a ring or article of clothing. (Hint hint) _____________________

I figure that makes me a techhound. ![]() Likewise ![]() If not for my husband, I'd probably either still be sitting in front of my Good Guys computer, made with shitty parts and costing 5x what a Frankenstein computer cost, that died a year after I bought it, or have replaced it with the same crap built a year later. _____________________

my wife doesn't use a computer though, but I should stick to tech gear still? There are lots of other choices if you want to see how she reacts to tech gear... PSPs, Digital Cameras with dozens of options, gaming consoles, (if she enjoys that at all) good phones with entertaining options like photos and film, pocket PDAs, electronic calanders.... I don't know your wife, of course, so you would know better than I what would please her and what wouldn't. But think about her likes, interests, work and hobbies, and then take a look around at what's available, and what might make things easier or more fun for her. _____________________

Does she wear necklaces? If so, this might be a safe bet. My hubby has bought jewelry for me, but I don't wear it, due to having small children and I don't want them breaking my necklaces. (or ripping earrings from my ears) _____________________

If you're really interested in the tech aspect, then combine it with her own interests... How about a decent digital camera, and a scrapbook with an equestrian theme? She can take her own photos, use your computer to crop them how she likes (learning a skill in the process) and then create an album she can share with you and friends. _____________________

A wonderful suggestion, thank you. My pleasure ![]() (Anecdote follows, the easily bored should stop reading here.) I have a very, very large and close family. So large, that we've been driven to doing the Christmas Gift Exchange List every year, to avoid having to buy for about 30 relatives and close family friends each. We all buy for the kids under 16 or so, but for the adults, we all get stuck with 1. A couple years ago, I drew my sister's husband to buy for. I asked my sister what he would want, and her response was, "I dunno, he's into GUY things, women and sports and stuff." Not a lot to go on in choosing a single gift, since a cheerleader was out of the question. I ended up making up a 'Man Basket.' A galvanized metal tub (which can be filled with ice and used to hold beer or whatever) and filled it with English Pub coasters, an Around The World 12 pack of 12 different beers I hand chose, (I'm a "certified" Beer Master... pfft.. worst 5 hours I ever spent) imported beer nuts, flavored popcorn, a few DVDs, a 12-pack of good Pilsner glasses, and the book ESPN's Year In Sports, along with various other little fillers, like Altoid Sours, chocolates, baseball cards and such. I sent it to Cali with my brother when he visited for Christmas, and heard later from my sister that she couldn't keep him out of that 'basket' long enough to even get his attention, which I deemed a success. (Or a good excuse anyway.) _____________________

I've always tried to get my fiance something different than the usual flowers/candy/cards/jewelry stuff.
And yea, digital cameras are a very decent gift. You could also pick up one of those stand-alone HP Photo Printers. Works great for printing 4x6 pics from the memory cards. |
