I recommend "Mrs Henderson Presents" with Judy Dench (that's Dame to you) and Bob Hoskins. Great flick. Best spit-take ever captured.

The video is from honestreporting.com --If you go to that website, it preaches that media is biased against Israel. This is not to say that media couldn't be biased against Israel, but just know that this is the mindset that is putting out this video. This video is pro-israel partisan, which may not be completely incorrect, but it is partisan, and there are a number of people speaking in it who believe that anyone who doesn't agree with Israel's actions is also anti-semitic.
Now, there is definitely some truth to some of what they're saying--radical Islam is definitely trying to bring down Judaism and Christianity, which they strongly believe are the things that are forcing them to change their traditions and their culture, and in their belief system, that is unacceptable. They believe and teach their youth that America is trying to convert everyone to the western way of life. There could be some truth to their beliefs in this, but not in the way they fear and not in the way they describe. I truly believe that a small part of the reasonsing for the U.S. going into Iraq and other Islamic countries, to at least a very small degree, is a representation of Christianity vs Islam. There are many fundamentalist Christians, who happen to have a at least a somewhat firm hold on the U.S. government right now, who believe that the second coming of Jesus is going to happen soon, armageddon apocalypse and all that crap, and they want to be sure they are on the "right" side of that equation when the "end times" come around. It's sick and twisted. The U.S. does want to spread its version of democracy around the world--not to necessarily make things better for everyone, but to spread materialism and selfishness so corporations can flourish--to spread the American empire and ensure its survival. For without materialism and selfishness, and a drive for an ownership-based society, there is nothing to drive corporate supremacy, no reason to advertise products, no reason for most corporations to exist at all. The Islamic answer to this issue is most serious and extreme, and it is not acceptable to us and the rest of the world. One can be assured that if they had the money that we do, they'd be bombing the U.S. up and down, and would destroy Israel. I really don't know if there is any sort of answer to this problem. I really think there's going to have to be some sort of nuclear bombs being dropped somewhere for this to stop, and hopefully, no matter who drops the bomb/s, the amount of innocent lives lost will be at a minimum--but probably not--it will probably be devastating for many countries. http://www.provostdesigns.com/clients/lc2e/index.php the opposite side, partisan and 9-11-conspiracy oriented http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8217638438978899371&hl=en an attempt to balance out both sides, not nearly as partisan _____________________

Did you watch it, though? Haven't seen it all, but I found it interesting that several of the commentators in the film are Muslim. One is the daughter of a shahid. _____________________

Yes, I watched it. It gives an interesting perspective and gives me a sick feeling when I see how hateful some of the Islamic extremists are, and how much their speeches are accepted in the Islamic world. Absolutely sickening.

The worst of it is what is taught to the kids. It will take a generation or more to undo that damage.

It depends, you know? Think of Germany after WW2. My mother grew up there in that time. She is the complete opposite in her beliefs of what her parents were. I think next time we'll talk I'll ask for her perspective on that. I know that for years she and her parents argued about that very thing, but I've never asked her what she thinks had to happen to make so many of her generation see things differently than their parents.

The thing is, these sorts of beliefs are a lot more ingrained into their culture than the Nazi beliefs were in Germany in WWII. These sorts of beliefs in Islamic countries that are so heavily against any other belief systems has been going on for hundreds of years. I can hope that you might be right and that it might only take one or two generations, but it's really doubtful. _____________________

If you have time to watch a movie AMC usually has a really good one on, and they have fewer commercial breaks.

Personally I do not agree with everything that any one particular person may have said.
However there are some who have produced some truly amazing thoughts and views. Despite whatever other shortcomings they may have had those thoughts remain resilient, similar to a fine piece of code. I agree with many of the views of this person. Howard Bloom In the left hand column refer to "Islam's War against the West". Quote from site. It is not surprising that Moslem jurists would later declare that there are two worlds: the world of Islam--Dar al-Islam--and the non-Islamic world--Dar al-Harb. These two territorial spheres, explained the Moslem scholars, are in a state of perpetual war. According to some Koranic interpreters, any leader who fails to "make wide slaughter" in the land of the infidel is committing a sin. A statesman is only allowed the temporary expedient of peace if his forces are not yet strong enough to win. This may explain why Elias Canetti, in his Nobel Prize-winning book Crowds and Power, calls Islam a killer religion, literally "a Religion of War." Fmehh, I like your posts, they are very well worded. On the issue of Selfishness, it is both good and bad. It is like a knife, you can use it to cut bread or to stab people with. The rational idea of selfishness is a requisite so basic as to be completely overlooked by some people. Being individuals on this planet is a challenge only that individual can take on. If a person does not look out for their own survival needs they will in essence be useless to anyone else. Simply because if they cannot get past that basic challenge then they certainly will not be able to place themselves into a position to create value for anyone else. The level of Civilization or "normal cultural society" that americans enjoy includes a massive defense and security system that is literally in effect constantly 24/7. Why because there are people who for whatever reason, religion, status, hormones, group pride, want to destroy us. As distastefull and barbaric as that may sound it remains absolutely true. Our level of civil society allows us the luxury of entertaing thoughts of utopian ideals. And I myself am idealistic, however this must be balanced by realism. Just because I have the luxury of an open mind, does not mean that the radicals on the other side of the world similarly choose to take that option. In short, the civilized society we are accustomed to and depend on is not guaranteed beyond our own borders. Clearly there are corrupt corporations. Yet not all of them are corrupt. In fact the security that allows us to feel safe at any time is due to our government. Our government depends on the resources produced by its citizens to maintain this level of security. So like many people I hate infomercials, I hate spam, and telemarketers. Yet while these things are a major pain in the ass. And we could all list thousands of little negatives in relation to Corporations, they are simply groups of people trying to create value. Not unlike groups in SL. I much prefer to pay taxes and listen to infomercials and spam. Than being forced to provide for my own defense at all times. The ability to walk down the street in public wearing whatever I want, saying whatever I want, and doing whatever I want, (for the most part, not hurting anyone else) is a sweet, sweet thing. The experiment of a democratic republic is still a very young thing, especially in terms of the tyranny of human history. Maybe the ideal of everyone sharing everything, and nations laying down there arms, taking down all the billboards may one day come about. But I think there is a great deal of social evolution that needs to take place first. Otherwise the radicals will just come in and slaughter us. ![]() Ayn Rand's revolutionary concept of egoism. Essays on the morality of rational selfishness and the political and social implications of such a moral philosophy. Essays include: "The Objectivist Ethics," "Man's Rights," "The Nature of Government, "The 'Conflicts' of Men's Interests," and "Racism." ![]() So ok, I told myself I would not be doing any long posts today, oh well. Now please do not take this the wrong way I am not some Randling drone, yet there are some timeless and invaluable thoughts in there Infinivew = Socially liberal, Financially conservative. Separation of church and state. Down with Fundamentalism. There's my 2 cents. ![]() _____________________
