Seems like a typical KVM switch with just some added features.

Well, it's actually a KM software switch (no video, no hardware).

I have used KVM switches before, but for many reasons they are awkward to use.

For one, their support for multiple monitors is often poor, and the less expensive ones don't do well with complicated video card set ups. Some KVM switches also 'unplug' when you switch away, which can cause problems.

Synergy is pretty cool, because the natural feel of simply moving from one monitor to another with the flick of the mouse is pretty sophisticated.

And, best of all, it's free

If you need multiple inputs I recommend the Belkin Nostromo. Using it I can drive a car (no mean feat by itself ISL) and type at the same time, albeit slowly.

Synergy looks awesome, if you are willing to use the monitor space. Used to use something like that with the Amiga years ago, was very useful.

Now I just use an Belkin OmniView PRO 8-port rack mount KVM switcher (since a number of my puters are rack mount also). Works with all video cards I've ever messed with.
