All over the world today there were anti-war protests. If you have pictures or stories, post them. I'll follow up with a few myself as soon as they're off the camera.

This gentleman had a line of folks waiting to take his picture. :D

I also liked the "I can't afford an actual sign" sign in the background.

This gives a good idea of how large the protest was. The ladies wearing hats in the foreground were singing World War II era nationalistic songs that had been rewritten to have an anti-war, pro-peace theme.

Here's a picture of my new baby, who is 5 weeks old today, at her first anti-war rally. It's important to build anti-establishment cred as soon as possible in such a progressive locale. ;)

The picture has been creatively edited such that my RL identity is not compromised. Note how the bicyclist appears twice. :)

Ha ha! Boy, I never realized how creepy our avatars are until now, seeing them next to real people.

I read that the goal of 100,000 protesters in D.C. was exceeded by at least 50,000 (for a conservative estimated total of 150,000) with some saying as many as 300,000 showed up.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/24/AR2005092401701.html

Surely Kendra, ReallyRick, and I weren't the only SLers to participate. Who else was at a protest?

I didn't participate, I just posted a pic I thought was funny like I thought others were doing. :) I would have gone if there would have been one in Dallas.

Fascinating. Kendra and I were the only folks on the SL forum who participated in a world-wide anti-war protest. We are truly the progressive elite. ;)

easily 500,000 in Washington DC --not counting the thousands in NYC who didn't get there, because Amtrak suddenly suspended service along the NE corridor.

I never made it to DC, I was sitting, locked in an Amtrak train from 6:00am til 9:00am.
My fellow passengers (2 cars worth) gathered together and had an impromptu protest in front of Penn Station -- after several hours, we eventually were escorted by the police to Union Square to join other protesters. On the plus side --NY's Finest are indded that and they couldn't have been more courteous. Bravo to the NYPD!

Get out! Was this suspension of service a deliberate attempt to reduce the size of the protest in DC?

Despite the difficulties this sounds like it was a memorable experience and you were able to protest in two different venues. (Note the deliberate attempt to put a smiley over the three agonizing hours spent on a stationary train.) :)

I heard 400 (yes, 400) people showed up for the Pro-War rally today in DC.

No conspiracy here. Amtrak service in the NE corridor has been pretty sucky all year. I'd chalk it up to an unfortunate coincidence. That's what happens when Congress tries to cut funding for Amtrak AND blocks fare increases.

It seemed that way to me, but most of the other passengers did not wish to don my tinfoil hat.

exactly my feelings. This "republican" controlled government is gutting the nation's infrastructure in favor of granting money and favours to the top .01% of the wealthy.

I place "republican" in quotes, because no real republican should be falling for this crap.

and yet CNN covered this "rally" on a level that far surpassed the 500,000's rally yesterday.

500,000....give me a break.. I'm glad I don't have to work on the weekends...

Of course I tried to find a conservative estimate at foxnews, but heh, all I could find was an article about the small rally. Damnit assholes... Maybe I missed the article about the bigger one eh. Well at least they said the counter rally was "small"... The only article I could find said "over 100,000" for the big one.

Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

It was stated officially by the DC police that the expected 100,000 had been met. That does not mean that "over 100,000" means just a wee bit over 100,000.

But have a party and start counting for yourself.
