Im relitively new and have only 3 friends, This thread asks YOU what you think the best wat to meet new ppl is in SL.

do what I do, just randomly fly up to people and start talking. If they seem like your "kind of people" offer them friendship. The forums don't hurt either, I met alot of friends here.

yah but theres a problem with that, some ppl would find it rude of someone to do that, I mean I could try it but I don't like to anger ppl.

Try joining groups, I did a bunch of those SL military groups. I made tons of friends that way.

Going to events is also a great way to meet like minded people. Look for events that sound interesting to you, and TP in! You'll find yourself in a mutual conversation pit where you can join in and meet a buncha friendly folk. Not to mention the forums...But then, we're a family all our own.  Welcome to it!

Start Djing, or dancing, hell even become an escort. Find a place where you think you'll fit in and wait for the general discussion to turn to something you an talk about.
I had an advantage when I joined SL, I already knew people there, so I ended up meeting people faster, but thatks to the forums, you have that same advantage! Don't be shy about IMing me, and I'm not sure about the other people posting here, but ask around, you'll be good to go in no time!

Join groups. Go to events. Go shopping (or window shopping) for things you think are interesting and you might run into people with similar interests.

Its pretty much just like making friends in a new city, yes, its intimidating at first, but in no time youll find plenty of friends.

I used to sit on one of the statue pedestals in Amsterdam Square, which is a great place to meet people. I'd recommend peoplewatching for a while, as some seem to be drawn to the quiet or non-irritating types.

Attend all events with lots of guns strapped to your body and in your hands. It's also a good idea to wear a giant penis, as SL folks find this VERY amusing and it's a great conversation starter.

Some places I've met great people:
Club Akasha, The Wet Kitty Pub, The Blarney Stone, The Elbow Room, The Blue Note.
That's an eclectic mix I know, but I'm sure one of them will spark an interest. Good luck!
