I imagine there will be quite a few Second Life State of Play III articles in the news. We might as well append them to one thread...

Just read my first one on ZDNET called Name that Metaverse.

Great quotes from Phillip, Robin, Hamlet and other smarties...

while, in it's entirety, it was an enjoyable read and it sheds some light on the intellectual aspects of what's going on around here.. i couldn't help but focus on the "names" people were coming up with to describe this fairly new frontier.

i still stand by my original suggestion of "Betaverse". which immediately implies an early, infantile stage, of development.. while at the same time it describes where we're heading.

we know what this is going to lead to.. whether SL is a driving force 20 years from now or not, it's a huge stepping stone in the direction of the future of our world. where "Real Life" and "Virtual Life" cease to have a line of seperation, but instead co-exist like two parallel worlds complimenting each other in everything from products developed within the digital plane that trans-migrate into the physical plane to brothels that offer sensory excitation in any shape/form you could possibly imagine.

it's like trying to come up with a name not for Earth, but for what goes on here.. what would you call the community of people on this Earth and the myriad of expressions that we flesh out? there's the trick quwestion.. there isn't a name for it. it's just... life.

and on the digital plane, which is an extension of this physical "Life", what could we call it? except for... "Second Life"?

maybe.. isn't that like.. all the land that Simba was gonna get?

i hear where you're coming from, but Joe Schmoe won't have the foggiest if someone said.. you should visit this domain! they would most likely thik you/i/whoever was some sort of BSDM type with lots of leather straps and things in the basement. LOL..

and Cybin.. can you ever just say "hey, good idea dude!"? without going on like some fat-brained intellectual? bah..

HERE"S ONE FROM GAMASUTRA:

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6791

Incidentally (coincidentally), the guy who did that writeup is Simon Carless. I reckon this is the same SC who helped me archive my MP3s on this page:

http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collectionid=Torley_Wong_-_The_Final_Selection&collection=opensource_audio

after I stopped doing music, and during my whole getting-into-SL adventure! WHAT ARE THE ODDS! :)
