I had this link sent to me by email. It's an excellent debate between Donahue and O'Reilly showing the best that Donahue has to offer along side the worst O'Reilly has to offer. It's as if the forums have come to life.

After watching it, do you really think O'Reilly has a nephew that enlisted? Given his prior track record of lying on the air, I doubt it. :(

Wow.
I did not see the video but the transcript makes the forums look tame actually. :D

Watch the video. It's awesome :D

And Phil Donahue kicks ass... nice to see a guest stand up to O'Reilly :)

[edit] They talk about Jeremy Glick for a bit there, if you haven't seen that video, there is a clip here.

I saw this live a few nights ago, was very intresting. Knowing O'Reilly, I suspect he has a member (most likely NOT close) of his family in the armed forces.. Truly though, I doubt this kid will see much action, if any. More like O'Reilly's attempt to attempt to justify his rantings.

I've heard some of the conversation on Democracy Now but I had never seen the footage. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the WMV file's audio to play in MPlayer or Windows Media Player under MacOS, so I hunted down a QuickTime version of the clip. It plays under MacOS and has a higher resolution.

Thank you for the original clip Lianne. :)

Saw this ... yeah, as bull-headed as O'Reilly can get, I've never seen him outright lose his temper until Donahue. I wish I had popcorn ready when this went down - soooo funny.

I like the bit at the end advertising for Kissinger.

I always find it amazing that a bloodthirsty criminal like Kissinger is still somehow a "respected politician" that makes the talk show circuit. Nothing sticks to that guy. :D

Excuse the dumb Canadian question but has this Bill Riley guy still got a job after that outburst? He sure shouldn't. I seem to remember Dan Rather being dragged through the mud or fired or something over a much smaller slight.

Hilarious!

Have you ever seen The Trials of Henry Kissinger? The out-and-out lawbreaking of the executive branch, facilitated by Kissinger, during the Vietnam war is shameful (and criminal).

He works for Fox Broadcasting, where this kind of pseudo-debate (irrational punditry) is encouraged as it supports the ideology of the owner of Fox and garners high ratings for the show.

Personally, I record (via TiVo) BBC News and watch it in the morning instead of U.S. morning news (more fluff and advertisements than news). BBC News is the only news agency that actually showed pictures of corpses in Louisiana, whereas U.S. stations censored it.

Dan Rather was a newscaster, an anchor for the network nightly news. Bill O'Reilly is a commentator who has a political talk show. Big difference.

I haven't seen it, (or read the book :D), but that period is exactly what I was referring to when I used the "criminal" tag.

I dont watch TV enough to have a choice, but I get all my news from web sources and top of the list is BBC.

The difference between them and American sources like CNN is huge. They actually give both sides of the Arab-Israeli conflicts for instance.
