Hi, for those of you who don't reside in California and might not know about this, we're very close to voting on a number of propositions, including Proposition 74, the "Put The Kids First Act" which you an read in detail here. (PDF format). Very basically, it's a bill to increase the time before a school teacher becomes tenured from two years to five years. Thus it's pretty unpopular with teachers, and I know enough of them that I had planned to vote against this. While reading through the "fine print" of this bill, I caught a little sneaky-pete move within: "44932. Grounds for dismissal of permanent employee; Suspension of permanent probationary employee for unprofessional conduct.(a) No permanent employee shall be dismissed except for one or more of the following causes:" <here they begin listing causes, but I'll skip ahead to....> " 10) Knowing membership by the employee in the Communist Party." Could somebody kindly explain to me how one's political beliefs can be considered "unprofessional conduct"?

What, did they copy entire sections of that bill from 1956? I thought Islamic Radicalism was the new Communism. You should call them and tell them they misspelled it.

Not surprising since everyone knows communists are in league with Satan. Welcome back to the 1950's. I can't wait until we make it all the back to the 20's. That looked like a swingin' decade.

Public schooling in general - Does that not seek an equal education opportunity for each child, in an attempt to accomplish a higher social goal?
It could be argued that the entire system is de facto communist.
Thus they could all fire each other before getting around to firing the educators.

It may not be a bad idea to write a "letter to the editor" of your local rag Taco pointing out the absurity of this, and perhaps even the unconstitutionality of it (I'm not a lawyer so I'm not sure if it tramples on one's right to express one's self or not, but isn't a teacher a public employee?) Uneffing believable. Just in case you are not a communist and so you are just shrugging your shoulders, ask yourself, so it's communists now, whats next? maybe Libertarians? Democrats after that? Where does it end? Should your ability to make a living really depend what other people think your political beliefs are?

I love you and your mother and your mother's mother, but don't make the argument above. It makes you sound crazy. Stick to the unconstitutional part and people will listen.
