BUYER BEWARE: Real Network Subscription Cancellations

Hey,

For those of you who watched Big Brother and used the Live Feeds from REAL Networks...check this out.

I called to cancel the free subscription before it was up. OK, they did not cancel it. I got billed $12.95. Since I had no record of the call or any confirmation I thought "Fair enough". I called and cancelled AGAIN!

The representative let me know that my account would be availale until 10/28/05. She said she was sending an email to confirm. I saw the email come through and saved it to a folder.

Here it is 11/1/05 and I was just charged AGAIN!
I went back to the email and here is what it actually says:

Per our conversation, please consider this e-mail as confirmation that your superpass membership is paid up through 10-28-2005. If you would like to continue your membership at that time, no further action is required. However, if you should decide that you would like to cancel at that time, you may do so by contacting Customer Service prior to that date or simply by responding to this e-mail with your request.

We encourage you to use this time to check out all of the great features and new content available to superpass members. And remember, you are eligible for free technical support and product upgrades for the life of your membership.

If there is anything else we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1.888.768.3248.


wtf? Didn't I tell you that I want the account CLOSED Bitch? I mean my God! I think I will be calling my bank in the morning to report this crap. Why should I have to call AGAIN after I just spoke with their asses and told them to cancel.

What then? Call us back to make SURE you want to cancel? Then call us back a 4th time just to be sure? Then after we bill you $12.95 a few more times, please call again to let us know how pissed you are and let us know if you would like to cancel at that time.

BEWARE OF REAL!
Is it just me or does this sound shady?

:mad: Aww man, I feel your pain. I had the exact same problem with those clowns and I don't even know how I *subscribed* to their craptastic service. I ended up paying for 3 months of it because no matter how many times I called to cancel it, it was STILL renewed the following month. I guess they only respond to threats and *very* angry people.

Best of luck getting rid of them :(

Contact your credit card company and request a chargeback on the charge.

this happened to me too - exactly the same... cancelled before the free period was up, and they didn't. I didn't notice this on my credit card (though its actually my current account debit card, too) statement for 3 months (yeah, I shouldn't be that lazy) and when I did, called once again about cancellation and a refund for a service I didnt use because I didnt know I had...

...and they just kept taking the money.

In the end, I had to cancel my credit card in it's entirety and get a new one, and transfer several standing orders and stuff, because my CC company said the only way to stop them taking the money was to call Real Networks up and cancel... :rolleyes:

They are scum sucking pieces of shit. And owe me about 60 bucks.

I'm a victim of Real/Rhapsody too! But I did get my purse stolen and my cc was canceled anyway, only after 4 months of being charged for something I never used and couldn't get cancelled. :(
