Except when it's a noun... n. 1. A drapery; a curtain. 2. A cloth arranged over a patient's body during a medical examination or treatment or during surgery, designed to provide a sterile field around the area being examined or treated or around the operative incision. 3. The way in which cloth falls or hangs: adjusted the drape of the gown. That is wrong and it is against god's plan. Draperies is a noun. Drapes is a verb. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise. _____________________

A living language is constantly in a state of flux. Words are added, words fade from useage, they shift in meaning and sometimes acquire new meanings.
Drapes as a noun is still considered informal, so you are well within rights to promote the formal useage. Good luck with your campaign, but for now I'll keep calling them curtains. _____________________

A living language is constantly in a state of flux. Words are added, words fade from useage, they shift in meaning and sometimes acquire new meanings. This is absolutely and categorically untrue. You can't just start making up words to replace other words. It would destroy the universe as we know it and more immediately it would cause the polar ice caps to melt. Do you want that to happen? Do you? What about a refinery? Will we now have refines laying all over the place? No, we won't. I'm so glad this is settled now. _____________________

I was draped once... it was very traumatic. Please do not talk about such things lightly.

And according to current Brit-speak, "pants" is a noun, verb, adjective, and interjection being both pejorative or approbative depending on context. Why can't they just use "fuck" instead as "English" speaking Americans have already made such a word?

The OED dates the usage of the word "drape" as a noun back to 1665. Merriam-Webster also has it listed as noun with no disclaimer of it being informal or slang. B. There really is no official regulation of the English language. Dictionaries pick and choose which words to add based on how language evolves in contemporary usage. Merriam-Webster explains their process. _____________________

In my mind you may drape a peice of furniture or a painting or drape material on the windows...so yes a verb...but have been taught that drapes are formal floor length Curtains, lined and heavy. Curtains being light weight and of cotton or linen or openweave type material. That is without consulting a dictionary of any kind...Like my signature says....*wise* LOL

B. There really is no official regulation of the English language. Dictionaries pick and choose which words to add based on how language evolves in contemporary usage. Just because there is no official regulation doesn't make it right. People go around murdering other people but that's nt right just because they do it. It's like those people who insist on wearing white shoes after labor day. (nurses excluded) It is just wrong! While we are on the subject, your purse should never be larger than your head. I see these people with gigantic purses in the mall and I think I should be allowed to rip off their white shoes and beat them about the head and face with them. The world is turning into a moral cesspool and has been ever since 1665! _____________________
