Am I the only one who thought that the opposition to this deal was blown way out of proportion?
Huge trade deficits and huge national debt means that the US is highly dependent on the good faith of foreign nations. The dollar is only as strong as people think it is. If faith in the ability to spend dollars drops its exchange rate will come crashing down. That means no more cheap foreign imports along with higher interest rates. I doubt this deal alone will be significant, but if this sort of policy starts to become commonplace we may see a loss of faith in the dollar. In the long run, this is going to happen anyway, since deficits can never continue indefinately. Did opposing this deal increase our security? _____________________

I have of late--but wherefore I know not--lost all my mirth, that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory, this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours.
