http://www.thegreydragon.com/2005/09/time-of-your-life-almost-all-of-cyan.htmlVia Slashdot. If you're a biggie Myst fan, you probably already know, but if not, well, there you have it. I hereby doff my cap to them, and offer thanks for some wonderful gaming memories.

They haven't completely closed their doors... but they have laid off almost all of the employees. See this FAQ for more info: http://www.uruobsession.com/?page=CyanFAQIt's a major bummer that it has come to this for the folks at Cyan. Their work has been an inspiration to me. I hope that the future brings good things to everyone involved -- whether it's new places to land or new funding for pending projects at Cyan. I hope to see them able to continue their work in some way and maybe be in a position to hire their crew back. /me bows You are a class act Cyan Worlds. Onward and Upward!

That's SAAAD! I remember when they were a smaller company... well, I guess a larger company than having no employees, and they made this hit game Myst which I played over and over. I remember how unfair the rocketship puzzle was for just about anyone who didn't have musical training; I didn't even look at the clues and solve it. I recently downloaded the Myst V demo and really tried hard to get into it... I ended up writing silly doodles on the tablet and wondering why such a program would have a Java installer and other odd rough edges. And oh, I know the first Myst was written in Hypercard, but geez! I am also hoping that Cosmic Osmo and The Manhole will be remade someday, but that doesn't seem likely (despite what it says on this page). They had no real "point" to them, just EXPLORATION. The whole process. Note: The download of this game has been removed since Cyan has informed us that they are working on re-working older titles for re-release. Great news, so please be patient and contact Cyan directly if you want more details or release dates LOOKS LIKE NOT!!! Anyhoo, I was in Myst V some more, and then felt so lonely. There was this dude, Esher, but he bored me... and he wasn't a real person. Some of the scenery was gorgeous like the sky and the sea, and I hope to see more of that in here, that attention to detail but the simple elegance of nature. So I came back to SL.
