My girlie just had babies yesterday and everyone is saying keep Mr Tomcat away but my tom is sooo gentle and he's just sniffing at her and babies when he gets out of his locked room...how long do I have to worry about him and offspring??? Should I go ahead and let him come out and play today????

if cannabalism is the act of eating other humans, is catabalism the act of cats eating other cats?

I have a few cats and I would say a couple of days / week , at least until the mother is back on her feet and is fit enough to protect them. (then keep a close ear out for a fight if daddy doesnt want to be nice)
I would also suggest taking them to the vet, getting them checked and ask their advice as well. _____________________

Thanks that clears it up a little bit, and yes I am trying to get her into vet soon to have them just do a basic exam because she is just a year old and this was her first litter but she has been an excellent mama, she will barely leave them to eat, in fact has just nibbled a few seconds in last 24 hours so I'm moving dish close to her today too..she just will not leave her babies. Having never had pregger animals this entire thing has been a fun experience but I dont' think I want a repeat anytime soon LOL
Since she's so watchful I think I will let him roam *under my supervision* today |

I think as long as they are under your supervision, things will be ok, if you leave the house, keep them seperated.

if cannabalism is the act of eating other humans, is catabalism the act of cats eating other cats? If vegetarians eat only vegetables, do we have to watch out for humanitarians? [/OT] _____________________

The Toms eating kittens is kind of a feral/wild cat thing. I doubt you will have problems. The vet is the best peson to ask.
