A week or two, there was a thread that devolved into an argument between myself and Kevn. He, being a business owner, was asserting the "old-school" way of thinking in regards to business: the people who excel are the ones who are dedicated to their jobs, enjoy their jobs, and actively make their job a focus (if not the only focus) of their lives. I argued that more of them were like me: people who did the job well, but typically didn't care about the job itself, and thought of it as just the thing they do that gets them money they use in their actual lives. I argued that such people (myself included) successfully dupe their corporations into letting them settle into powerful, secure positions where the company must depend on them, and then do as little work as possible to accomplish as much as possible. "Office Space" theory. Well, victory for me today. As of 9/1/06, I will be recieving a $10,000/year raise. That's roughly $833/month before taxes. Apathy: the key to all things professional  .

Congrats, Corvus. What they don't tell you is that because you have moved into a higher tax bracket, they now take an extra 845/month....

*snert* Interestingly enough, I DID move into another bracket. But I have 7 exemptions on my taxes. Until now, I got back more per year than I put in. Now I should just about break even.

But I have 7 exemptions on my taxes. Until now, I got back more per year than I put in. Now I should just about break even. /me immediately stops taking her birth control pills. Congrats, Corvus. If I could "coast" at my job, I *so* would. But when you're a nurse, they expect you to do things like save lives and crap like that.
