SL Families: The Ties That Bind

I find it fascinating how, even in this realm of complete make believe, we feel compelled to bring certain facets of reality into the world. Houses for example.

Houses with KITCHENS.

It's like SL is *so* real that, once immersed, we feel disconnected without these things to ground us. We *need* a place to call home.

The most remarkable example of this is the formation of SL families. While I remain an orphan myself, I have a twin sister-Kylie Dusk, and twin girls with Kasie Costello-Bella and Hitana.

All of these relationships happened by accident, but they all bring a warmth and depth to my SL experience. My Second Life wouldn't be the same without them.

How do families form? Who decides what kind of relationship it is (parent, child, sibling)? For some it may be a desire to try their hand at parenting-a dry run if you will. For others it may be an opportunity to relive (and reinvent) their childhood, or maybe to have the sibling they never had.

With all these SL kids running around, I'm surprised there aren't more cottage industries like schools, babysitters, day care centers, etc.

I invite you all to share your family stories and photos here and maybe we can get a better understanding of the ties that bind us.

I love them, and they really amaze sometimes, for better or worse. ^.^

But you know what, squabbles aside, they mean the world to me.

My closest lovely family members: I have a Sis, Willow Caldera, whom I ADORE with all my heart (also happens to be my best friend, my confidante and the coolest person like EVAH, RL and SL), then I have my BIL Ice Therian.. who is scarily soft and spikey , Sistu Vicious Firefly, shes one haaaaaaaaaaawt cookie

I have nephews, Fatal, Andy, Braddles, Bobb and of Course I have Hallie.. my lovely daughter

Then I have my Onsund Knox family! Maderia, MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM as I call her and Ons my DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD, Estrelle my lurvely sis, and well lots of other siblings, who I don't talk to as much as I should

Anyways, we have lots of family members, you get the idea. I also call my closest friends my family too, Love you guys, each and every one of you, you know whom you are, you are the BEST thats what! The Best friends and family I could ask for

We don't just choose to have family in here for fun, its not a game, we choose to have family in here, cos if we could, we would choose them in RL.

This notion of family--extended and otherwise--is totally new to me; however, the experience has been amazing!! How fortunate I am to have this love in my life!

I think most people who have been in-world for a little while have found a 'family'--be it a close circle of friends or a diverse group of folks with similar interests. We are all enriched, I believe, for touching lives.

I dunno about going to the teen grid...but maybe you were kidding. On the other hand, maybe we should start an SL orphanage (or want ads in the forums) for kids looking for parents.

This is a very fascinating thing and pretty darned cool at that. If it matters at all, I am a family cat.....

OMG my family is my LIFE...hugs to both willows, dany, estrelle, odil, sulumor, shep(whos not iw anymore) talila, cao, paolo, beta, the ones who have left...you know who you are mummy misses you! and of course their fabulous father Onsund without whom i would most definitely be dead by now who keeps me satisfied and lets me be my quirky self....

the purpose of my family is to be the type of mother i always wished i had...and to be there for people when their own was lacking as well....and I am so glasd i found the man i want to share all my chillins with hes the best father and rl husband to be a girl could ever ask for i love all of yous my wonderful family
