This sounds like such bullshit fear-mongering.

Anecdotal and situational evidence suggests that the Salem witch trials (and many other witch hunts) were precipitated by an outbreak of ergotism much like the well-documented case in France in 1951.

From: article
The four doomed flights of 11th September were, in a very real sense, Gerin oil trips: all 19 of the hijackers were high on the drug at the time.
This is either a deliberate lie or else the source ought to be quoted. From what I heard the hijackers were CIA plants and possibly not even the real terrorists said to have been there. Also the planes could have been shot down quite easily before they even got near the WTC, so blame FEMA and their wargames that were going on that morning, cluttering up the air traffic controllers' radar screens with false blips.

This is not to say Gerin oil is not the monster that it is being made out to be, but rather that there are greater monsters that breathe fire that are running our government.

oh and wrt ergotism

From: someone
Theories on the Salem Hysteria:

ERGOT
Linda Caporael's "Ergotism: The Satan Loosed in Salem?", Science, Vol. 192, No. 4234 - April 2, 1976 puts forth a theory on the Salem witchcraft hysteria which suggested that those involved had Ergot toxicity caused by a mold that can grow on rye and has hallucinogenic effects. The theory was refuted almost immediately by Nicholas P. Spanos & Jock Gottlieb in a subsequent issue of Science.
The basic problems with the theory which Spanos and Gottlieb point out include: 1) specific digestive-tract symptoms of ergot poisoning are not reported in the afflicted; 2) the symptoms would come and go in a group in unison, which is more indicative of a psychological basis for the fits than a biological one; and 3) whole households would be more likely to be affected by a poison in a dietary staple, but only one or two members of any given household were affected.
The theory has a firm place in the current folk theory of the events in Salem, and was used by Robin Cook in his novel "Acceptable Risk."
Both articles from Science are available in Marc Mappen's excellent anthology about how historians have viewed the events in Salem: "Witches & Historians: Interpretations of Salem" [Keiger: Malabar, Florida. 1996]. This is unfortunately now out of print but could possibly be found through a used bood [sic] dealer.

it was more likely caused by gerin oil addiction, perhaps combined with greed and egotism

I've never been interested in Gerin Oil myself. I know a few people that take it regularly, but i've never been able to get a real factual explanation for why they do so...

If I ever do I might try it myself, but I doubt that will ever happen.

There's got to be a commandment against this.

Nero had a very unusual method of using gerin oil to light torches. Too bad it fell out of fashion.

The sub title is a dead give away to anyone who has read that quote from Marx.

The author should have left it out hehe it would have taken me longer to figure it out. :p

I heard that the fishermen of Brancaster Staithe, on the Norfolk coast, are immune to Gerin Oil. ;)
