Is there a way to disable texture mapping in the SL client when building?

I have used a few random 3D modelling programs before, and there is usually a view that shows the prim shapes and sort of a grey scale texture effect. I know the view wireframe is there in the advenced menus, which is amazing for building deep underwater, but anyway, not for this job.

I am trying to tweak a build with a lot of alpha maps and I need to see the exact way the prims interscect. Is there any function in the debug menus that does a similar sort of view in SL? That shaded prim shape with no textures, the view transparent is knowhere reliable for getting perfect anything. You can't really see how close the edges are. I tried disabling a few things here and there I thought may change the view but nothing disabled the textures without taking away viewing the prims as well. So that's not really helpful.

A few options I can think of:

1. Temporarily apply a 50% gray texture to the objects. Then retexture when you're done.

-OR-

2. Turn on Highlight Transparent. This will apply a translucent red overlay to the transparent surfaces, allowing you to see the full prim shapes.

-OR-

3. Turn on Highlight Transparent, and Wireframe View. You'll see the transparent prim shapes framed with red edges. They're a little hard to see if the scene is busy, but they're there. Temporarily applying maximum glow to the objects will make the lines a little more visible.

-OR-

4. Put your faith in mathematics. If you know the sizes of the objects, and you know their coordinates, you don't really need to be able to see anything at all. The math will tell you exactly where each object is, in relation to all the others, how they all intersect, etc.

-OR-

5. Put your faith in the on-screen rulers. When using the World, Local, and Reference rulers properly together, you've got all the information you need in order to know exactly where are the centers, edges, and whatever fractional values you want, for all objects.

There is also a Disable Textures option in the Advanced menu (Advanced -> Rendering -> Disable Textures), but it doesn't seem to do anything.

What I came up with too, a 'view faces' would be a good addition. I just switch it back to the plywood, then retexture each face. Which is a bit of a nightmare, but then again I don't have to be such a perfectionist.
