third person camera question

Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the way the third person camera always snaps back to the "behind you" shot when you start moving? I've tried editing the keys.ini so that you can move while holding down ALT but even while holding ALT it still does it.

I'm hoping that someone knows of some settings file that contains the camera settings so that I can delete/alter this default action.

3rd-person camera annoyances
12-16-2004 22:26
Yea, that can be annoying--as can the camera changing whenever a different body part is selected when editing your avatar (at least for the same area--like the head--clicking a different part, chin, eyes, nose, mouth, etc, should keep the camera where it is); it's annoying having to reposition the camera all the time.

I'd also like to have 1st-person view on ALL the time, complete with the full GUI as in 3rd-person view. There's no reason this can't be done. I hate being so far away from what I want to look like--and having to go into mouselook mode all the time--and out of it to do most things--is yet another annoyance.

Any developer Linden care to reply to this?

It would be nice if the camera didn't snap back when clicking the av to move the camera around too. The zoom level should remain fixed until otherwise changed by the user. Also, coming out of mouselook mode should, optionally, retain the camera angle instead of resetting to a level position. These 2 OPTIONS would greatly aid in overriding the default camera position/focus via settings.ini (and probably with the new camera functions in SL 1.9 too) and getting a proper 1st-person view with full GUI.

I think with the new camera lsl functions many of these things could be done by residents.

No, they can't. Reread the thread more carefully...this is about camera RESET issues--the new camera functions can't do squat about them.

/280/34/94701/1.html for settings.ini camera mod limitations/annoyances, too.

You can force the camera to not reset. I've seen a "drop camera on floor" script (by RacerX), that leaves the camera on the floor while you go off walking, no reset. Perhaps doing something like this could acheive part of what the OP wants. Something taking control when it detects the av moving, and fixing the camera at that time. I dunno, maybe it's possible, haven't thought about it enough.

Um, that leaves the camera in a fixed position. What NumTee (and I) are referring to is the ATTACHED camera resetting. Again, reread the thread (ENTIRELY this time) before replying...

Eep, I know what you're talking about. I'm suggesting a perpendicular solution, or partial solution. Something you could wear that perhaps could force the camera to not reset in the ways you and/or the OP don't like, by taking control in the situations when it would otherwise reset. I don't know if this is possible or not. It's probably more likely to work for the OP's issue than yours.

If you have already looked into this issue from this perspective and found such a solution unworkable then my apologies.
