New computer? Old computer?

What are your specs? What version of the viewer are you using?

Crashes after login
01-12-2009 04:09
Yes...the same for me. It was all fine til last night. But since the morning after every login the viewer crashes within in first 20 seconds.

I checked and updated after that the driver for my Nvidia GTX 9800 and I have desinstalled the viewer and installer it again. Bit nothing helped.

There have benn no new installations on my computer. As I said, til last light everything worked fine...and now I cant use SL anymore. Something must be happened. Any ideas?

If you're running Vista, make sure you're not running Aero. Try disabling VBO in SL.

Clear your cache. Edit > Preferences > Network

If that doesn't work, go into Windows and delete the cache folder. The Network preferences tells you where it is. XP and Vista keep it in different places.

i had major issues with RAM stick dying.
one of your ram sticks might be dead, if you have two.

Open source memory tester, runs live from the CD. Burn the CD, reboot to it, and you have many options to test your RAM.

If you have Debian, you can install this to your bootloader (so all you have to do to test your memory is select the option in GRUB) without having to download a CD, just install package memtest86.

Note to OP.

Second life will never work perfectly.

Even on a machine with 16gb of ram and a Phenom X4...it still bogs at times and runs like junk. This is an ongoing issue, that is not likely to be completely solved. Scream all you like, but, I put my faith in action. So many messages of, "We are fixing yadda yadda yadda". Then the grid gets trashed even harder than the time before. So, there you go.

Oh wait, I miscalculated.

Only if you have a Chenbro case:
Dual phenom X4's
28gb of ram (At least)
Internal Cooling
A huge wireless stack (For backup)
and dual ATI set for crossfire

will you be able to run this game *somewhat* smoothly.

I dont mean to speak ill of Linden, they have accomplished much. But in this particular endeavor, I think they bit off more than they can swallow. Dynamic content/shmontent. My server serves 17 sites, as well as 9 dedicated gaming platoforms with 3 dimensional interaction and creation with anywhere from 1000-4000 people logging on per day. Now, if I buffed that up a bit and got a few more servers, Id be able to handle 65k+. Figure it out guys.

Over the past few days had major problems, and its been a problem since over Xmas I believe.

I cant TP, my inventory is missing hundreds of items, wonder when this problem will go away SL worked fine for months now all we see is database issues and people unable to TP etc. Annoying

cleared cache, relogged, reinstalled the list goes on and I am running a high end machine.

It's not the case. I have maximum performance on all games, but this is damn slow, cause they load everything from servers, not based on simple communicates to load a little when it's needed. When the tree moves left, it must be loaded, when an apple falls, it must be loaded. Why? Can an apple kill someone. I thing they can lie to us with those superb pictures on the site, but in reality, they must buy good engine and then I'll come back and buy all I want, these Linden Dollars :)
