When I log in to Second Life, I never know if I will have sounds & music or not. It takes several log ins to finally get the sounds. Anybody have a clue to what is causing this??

I had that problem today. Logged in and had voice but no other sounds, no music, etc. Relogged twice and then had all sounds & music. Any clue what causes this. Others have told me they occassionally have the same problem.

My mac and My PC and my girlfriends PC. Same problem. I doubt it is a computer specific problem with it affecting so many systems.

It not outside the realm of possibility that it's a hardware relataed issue. I'd look at the specs on all three, and determine what they've got in common.

Are they using integrated soundcards? If so, it's not unlikely that they've all got the same one. Just about all nVidia motherboards made these days come with the same onborad Realtek HD Audio unit, for example. As a result, there are a number of common audio problems and solutions that apply to very wide variety of computer makes and models.

It's also possible that your router is interfering. Are all three machines on the same router?

Find what all three have in common, and chances are you've got your culprit. Solutions will vary, depending on what you find.

Speaking of routers, since you've got a Mac, are you using an Airport? In my experience, those things are a nightmare for SL.

What kind of specs do you need ChosenFew?? I have submitted a ticket to Linden with NO help whatsoever. I have a Realtek High Definition Audio sound card. Do I need to upgrade that? Thanks!

Realtek HD Auido is notorious for choppy audio and/or popping sounds if you're using Dolby emulation on a 2-speaker system. Other than that, I'm not aware of any other common issues. I'm not sure what specifically might cause it to pick up SL's audio so intermittently as you've described, but I would suggest updating the drivers for your sound card and see if that helps.
