I just download SL and im trying to get on. I followed all the instructions. Whenever i try to open SL i get a box that pops up that says "were sorry SL has encountered a problem and will now close, sorry for any inconvienience" Ive reinstalled at least 5 times and nothing has changed. I downloaded the latest drivers for my NVIDIA 8800GT graphic card, I have allowed it in my firewall, hoping maybe that was it. But nothing. I erased all of my cache files. Im very frusterated. I have tried asking my technical savy friends to help but there too busy playing the game, to help anymore then what ive already tried! Can anyone please help??? pretty please with a cherry on top???
Thanx

You might try logging into a different region instead of where ever you are trying to log into now. Try Philudoria...........a pretty quiet sim on the mainland. And, aside from your 8800GT, what else does your computer have? There are other things besides graphics that prevent SL from running. CPU, amount and type of system RAM, are you connecting to the internet via wireless, is your firewall blocking you, have you ever been able to log into SL? And, of course it always help to know what your operating system is. So, if you will help us help you, I'll put a cherry on top too.

Hi Rayne, welcome to the forums, sorry it's under bad circumstances.
Haven't heard much about this problem ... it sounds, however, like it is on your side (not a server-side issue, and nothng with your account). Something with your install. I doubt it has anything to do with your graphics card, because I've never heard of that error message associated with any driver/device issues. In fact, I have an 8800 GT, never seen that.
Stab in the dark: what version of .NET do you have installed? It's quick, run off to Microsoft's website and install the most recent. .

Thanx for responding! Ok first off I dont even get an option on where to log onto, SL doesnt even open, I immediatly get the error messages. And I just downloaded it so i have never been on. Im using Microsoft Windows XP Pro, and i have a AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual, 2.81GHz- 4 GB of Ram. Im on ASDL Direct. And please forgive my computer illiteratness, lol But i checked my windows firewall and allowed SL on there. Is there another one i should check as well?
I just downloaded the updates for the .NET and then installed, tried SL and still no luck. So that must not be it, unless thats only part of the problem.

OK, I poked around and I found one person who saw this error. In their case, it was caused by an interference between their Quicktime installation and Second Life. To test this, uninstall Quicktime completely (be sure you reboot afterwards). Then try SL.
If you need Quicktime (actually, I think SL uses it for playing video inworld!), try reinstalling the most recent version. But first, test SL with Quicktime completely off your machine.
Oh, and with respect to firewalls, SL needs the following ports open: TCP-443 TCP-80 TCP/UDP-12035 TCP/UDP-12036 TCP/UDP-13000-13050 TCP-12043
(there's another port for voice too, if you need that). But I'm fairly sure that is not the problem you're seeing at the moment. .
