I got an alternate account for my brother and he can not connect from his pc, i can connect from my pc... he keeps getting the go to help screen to check sl status. His internet connection is fine, no firewalls are up.
any suggestions?

clear the SL cache, open ports
c:/documents and settings/<username>/Application Data/SecondLife/cache just dump it ALL if that doesn't fix it, refer to moleculor's post |

DON'T turn off your firewall.
Open up Second Life's ports.. I don't know what they are off the top of my head, but the info is in here somewhere. Never, ever, ever turn off your firewall. Why have it if you have to turn it off to use software? Open up the needed ports instead. |
