Can't Log In... increasingly frustrated.

Hello! I'm Kimberly Hanly on the game... and I keep trying to log in but each time it says "Login failed. The system is logging you out now. You're account will not be available until 2009-2-2 12:42:30 Pacific Time."

Every time I try to log in the date/time changes depending on when it is that I try... like it's 12:42 Pacific now... I'll try to log in... okay this time it changed to say "12:46:46 Pacific Time". Is there a reason it continually bans me from entering?

I haven't used any kind of cheat or bot, I don't like cursing so I know it couldn't have been improper language in a safe zone... the only thing I can think of was that on my first or second time playing I had a little difficulty putting on a set of freebie clothing so I stood naked in a store for a second or two trying to put them on... but then again I'm pretty sure the store was selling skins.... and you know what THOSE advertisements look like. Me being naked would have been like camouflage.

So... If you could help me out? See if there's a glitch or something that rejects me?

Thankies~~

Success! I tried logging in again and it was a success! I rezzed in a location that I hadn't been to for a few hours before logging off the other day... but I'm still able to get in which is great!

It did it again! I don't want to spend the night clicking "login" and being rejected over and over again... so is there anything I can do to help my situation? Thanks...

Are you waiting until the time it says, or are you trying to force your way in early? If you don't wait the amount of time it tells you to, it can end up delaying your login indefinitely. Listen to what the error message is telling you.

If you did wait, and it's still not letting you in, try logging into a different region.

So you know, what can cause that particular error is if your viewer crashes as you're logging out. On your end, the program is closed, so you think you're out. But on the server's end, it never got the message that you actually did log out, since the viewer crashed before it could send it. So when you try to log in a second time, the system gets a little confused. It's basically saying, "Wait a second. How could you be logging in now if you never logged out? You're already here, as far as I knew. But if you're logging in, then you must not be here. Looks like I've got bad information here. I better figure out just what the heck is going on. Give me five minutes to sort it all out. Then come back. But not before then, or I'll get really annoyed, and make you wait another five, and then another, and another, until the end of time, if you don't just give me some breathing room here."

Make sense?

I don't force my way through early... I'm not an idiot, if it tells me I'm going to be blocked out until a certain time I'm not going to keep trying to log in... that would be like throwing myself at a brick wall over and over again. Stupid. I tried doing it once, and realized when I tried to relogin that the time stayed the same from the first alert, down to the same amount of seconds and everything. I've tried changing regions, it doesn't help.

I got back in last night after I realized that every time I tried to log in (after waiting sometimes several minutes after the prescribed time... I was reading a book on the side and got distracted often) when the notice came up, the status bar jumped forward a bit... probably only 3 or 4 percent, and when I tried the next time to get in, the status bar opened to that percentage and jumped forward again... and so on until after two hours of "Oh yeah, it's been five minutes, hasn't it?" and trying again, I basically manhandled my way back into the location I'd just been in... which was perfectly fine with a small amount of people already wandering around, so it's not the regions fault.

And I was kicked out of the game, I didn't log off... and I thank you for your help, but honestly I would have understood you without breaking it down so simply... I know it wasn't your intention at all, no worries, but I feel a little... patronized. Just so next time someone doesn't get snippy with you =)

I realize you're frustrated, Kimberly, but no one was trying to patronize you. Snap-backs like "I'm not an idiot" are not at all helpful.

You must understand, none of us have any way of knowing how much understanding of these things you might or might not have. Plus, when you post a question in a public forum, it won't be just you who reads the answer. Lots of people will read it, with levels of expertise ranging from considerable to none at all. It's therefore absolutely crucial to explain everything in as simple and complete terms as possible. These forums exist for the benefit of everyone, not just you.

If that makes you uncomfortable, I'd ask you to approach the situation from a less self-centered point of view, and consider the bigger picture. We're all one community here. If that's not something you're willing or able to do, then I'd encourage you to seek help elsewhere, as this clearly isn't the right setting for you. I hope it won't come to that.

In any case, so you know, you weren't "kicked out". Your viewer crashed. It happens. Everything I said in my previous post is still relevant, whether you actually clicked to log out or not. The end result was the server didn't know you had left, and it got confused when you tried to log in again while you were "still there".

As for whether or not it was the region's fault, the fact that there were other people walking around in it doesn't mean anything. The sim could well be handling existing agents just fine, while at the same time not properly handling requests for new logins. If other people were logging in and out from the sim with ease, then I'd say we could eliminate the region as a potential cause of the problem, but we've obviously got no way of knowing anything about anyone else's experiences but yours.

Here are a few things I'd suggest:

1. Uninstall SL, reboot, and reinstall. It's possible the crash damaged something in your installation. If that doesn't fix the problem, read on.

2. What network card do you have? How current are its drivers? Are you running wireless or wired? If it's wireless, try plugging in, and see if that solves the problem. If it does, then you know your wireless is the culprit. For information about proper wireless standards and configuration for SL, see https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4355

3. Are you running a software firewall? If so, disable it temporarily, and see if you're able to log in and out more easily. If you can, then you know your firewall was simply misconfigured for SL. For more information, see https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4355

4. Now let's talk hardware firewalls. Do you use a router? If so, try bypassing it temporarily. Plug your computer directly into your modem. Can you log in and out now? If so, then you can safely conclude your hardware firewall is not configured properly for SL. For more information, see https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4355

5. What ISP do you use? Do they throttle your traffic after any certain limit? SL uses a very high amount of bandwidth. If you've got a limit in place, your ISP might be cutting you off.

6. What are your full system specs? If a component is unsupported, or underpowered (the listed minimums are actually way too low), SL's behavior could be unpredictable.

This is a user forum. Chosen Few's suggestions are all good.

But if this issue is persistent, you need to fill out a ticket with LL. Use the correct drop-down for your account status. There are bugs out there that are keeping users in log-out mode and/or crashing them on TPs and not allowing TPs to be set.

Linden Lab techs need to help you out if you are caught up in these bugs.
