My avatar is on Help Island trying to get familiar with things, and there are (I kid you not) hundreds of photographs of what might be a grossly fat Amish woman bouncing around her and over the ocean and into the Freebies building. They are all the same picture, and it's a photograph, not an SL image. It's very weird, and it wasn't there yesterday.
Is this the work of a hacker?

Now the photos are smaller and fewer and alternating with something that looks like a cartoon standing mirror or dresser or something.

And then they slowed down to a drizzle and the last one bounced out of my view. I captured a snapshot to my hard drive though if you need proof.

Sounds like a grief attack. However from your description, sounds like it's already been stopped, and too late to make an Abuse Report.
