I got computer that was just released. The new compaq with the AMD triple core cpu (2.1Ghz). Also along with 3 gigs RAM and a Geforce 9300 GE, along with the usual vista home premium. After putting SL on I can play for a while but at some points the graphics fails out on SL and it crashes after the screen blackens and restores. At first I got the usual notice when you download SL; The graphics is unknown at the time. I'm just wondering if LL will ever add the 9300 at some point? It was only just released, its lower than the 9600 and 9800 of course

Did you make sure to update your drivers from Nvidia's site? Out of the box drivers are bad >_<
Also it could be overheating. Take a look inside that compy, most Compaqs Have a cramped case design. |

Compaqs are junk. Low end entry level computers that I, personally, would never buy even for a birthday gift for my hated cousin who used to beat the tar out of me years ago. Back when Compaq and HP merged (or otherwise became afilliated) I thought there might be a change.........nope. All that has happened is that HP and become half a step above Compaq. I'd buy two or three E-Machines before even considering a Compaq. But, if you want to pay a near premium dollar of a budget computer, go ahead...it's your money. And your headaches on getting it to perform......if you can.
And, recently, I've heard Packard Bell is showing it's ugly head again in the market........woo wooo, what fun that is going to be here on the tech forums. ![]() Rant over. ![]() |

D: Product Current Installed Driver Recommended Driver NVIDIA GeForce 9300GE 175.56 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time. Apparently its to date so far =_= _____________________

SL is pretty demanding. Maybe its just an overheating problem. Can you stay on for longer if you leave your PC's case open?
You could also go here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=94 and try out one of the 177.XX beta drivers ^_^ Good luck. ^^ -Asriazh |

I went here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_family.html but could not find a 9300 GE listed. The suffix of E normaly signifies a lightweight version of a Graphics Chip, possibly welded to the MB.
Using search on the nVidia website (9300) came up with this http://search.nvidia.com/?q=9300 Two of the links were for beta drivers dated 29th July. The thrid http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadroplex_certified_platforms.html gave a list of certified platforms and motherboards. The GeForce 9300 GE is listed in the Products Supported tab. However none of the information relates to Vista. GeForce Release 177 BETA Version: 177.79 Release Date: July 29, 2008 Operating System: Windows XP, Windows XP Media Center Edition Language: U.S. English File Size: 38.6 MB Sorta strange for a new GC release, not supporting Vista. The Release notes state 'Version 177.79 for Windows XP' Although SL isnt obviously listed in the 'supported games', there is one entry regarding an OpenGL platform, which suggests turnning off AA (Anti-Alaising) both in the nView control panel and ingame, may prevent crashing. You may also have to reduce the Texture Memory allocation in the SL Client preferences, to half the stated memory available, also try turning off VBO (vertex Buffers) in the Client preferences, see if that helps you. _____________________

Thats not really new... i have a quadcore 2.5ghz and i got it almost 5 months ago. 1 month in real life is 1 year in computer component's life. I am running 8Gig of ram and 2 ati 3870's in xfire.. my comp probs cost half as much too ^^
Sorry to bash your comp, but please in the future build the comp yourself or get someone to do it =D P.S I do have a small problem with SL with my set up, but it does not disrupt game play at all (funny walk jump problem) The best comp for SL has to have a dual core at 3GHZ stock, 1 high end Nvidia Geforce GFX card 512mb DDR4 or higher, you will need atleast 4gig of ram imo. A sound card is also essential due to the fact all inbuild SC's on mobo's suck. Oh and not to forget, you will probably want to spend £30+ on a decent CPU cooler, but they can get very large ![]() |
