Alright, I'm having some major problems that are stumping everyone at the current moment and I'd really like some help.
I was using SL perfectly fine about...oh....4 hours ago. I went to walk from the sim I was in to the connecting sim and dropped into nothingness (even though moments before it had been there). After that I started having serious login troubles. It would get as far as "Waiting on Region Handshake" before dropping the connection with the message of "Having trouble connecting. Could be internet or SL servers". Checked the internet connections on my end...fine. I even tried logging in on my account on a different computer to get the same thing.
So I kept trying thinking it was the SL server. Every maybe fourth try I can log in to a specific sim (the one I was in prior to the problems appearing) but that's it. The sim bordering it appears as though its vanished into thin air, even though I can IM people that are in it. If they trying teleporting me there, they say they can see me land and then vanish, but on my end, all I see is a failed teleport causing a crash.
I've so far cleared my cache out twice (in the times I'm able to actually relog) and still nothing and that seems to be everyone's suggestion. What's most odd to me is I've been visiting these particular sims for months now with no such problem and using SL for years without it either. I'm baffled as to what's going on and because I have a basic account, I'm not getting much help.
And no, I don't have any firewall settings on my computer. Could someone please help cause this is just getting crazy to me!

Have you tried resetting your login location? You can choose from home, last, or even type a sim name right over the info. It maybe the region you are linked to from the last login isn't available. This can cause problems.

There are other people on it and using it and my friends can go to it. Just not me. It doesn't even appear on my mini map.

I have been having pretty much the same problems all week!! - the 'can't connect' error has been frequent and when I can get into SL after a couple of minutes I can't do anything. Out of interest, check the lag meter under Tools>lag meter - is the Network button green or red? And in the statistics bar (View>Statistics) does your bandwidth drop to near zero?
I tried *all* the suggestions given by LL - still doesn't work properly, and it was out of the blue, with no settings or anything change. Very frustrating!! I would suggest in the first instance you file a bug report under Support on this site. If this is a LL problem, the more people report it the more likely it's to be resolved.

Yes, my bandwith does drop to near zero or below. But I don't see a lag meter button....

yeah, also noticed (since I've finally managed another relog) that I'm not in any groups. When I go to change my tag...the list is empty...

Sounds like we have the same problem -as for a solution...??? I'm waiting for one...I was wondering if it's my internet service provider but why the problems all of a sudden?
Sorry, the lag meter is listed in the 'Help' drop down list. Mine starts of fine, on green then goes to red as my bandwidth meter goes to zero. Then I can't interact with SL - rezzes fine, and I can move the camera, but nothing else. I've tried everything - re-installing SL, clearing cache, tried tping to different regions (but TP doesn't work!!), given diagnostic info to LL, done the LL System test etc. etc. etc. No solutions yet. If you find one please let me know!!

But yeah, the Network light keeps flashing from green to yellow. The says possible bad connection or file sharing as a reason. Completely frustrating cause like you, I can't tp out anywhere either unless I feel like suffering a 15 minute forced log out. But like wise, let me know if you figure anything out.

Thank you all for the help. I finally got it fixed. Anyone having the same problems I listed try this....shut your computer down and completely unplug your modem (and router if one's being used), meaning power cord and cable cords, and just walk away and leave it for 15-20 minutes. When you get back, do a disk clean up and defrag, THEN plug everything back in.
That fixed me right up, no problems so it should work for others with bandwidth problems. It really just seems like the DSL modems over heat and need a cool down period to right things out.
Thank you everyone that did and tried to help!
