I'm unable to connect

I haven't been able to connect to the servers since yesterday. I've downloaded the latest version and re-installed freshly.

The only thing I can think of is that I tried WinXP service pack 2 and removed it but it left something on the system that won't let SL client connect...

Seems to hang for a while on "Verifying protocol version..." I have the latest setup but it's not working.

I am not sure, but have you tried changing your preferences to log into your home instead of your last location before you sign in?
