Okay, this is nearing the end of Day 3 and my wits with not being able to login to SL. Ever since the last update, I have been stuck at the "verifying protocol" screen, and that's it. My last location and home is in Teal, and I read that Rose had some issues, which is next door to me. Also, I read that in the latest patch, the IPS location had been changed, but if I emptied my dns cache, that would solve it. no. After reading other posts, I have: unloaded and manually reloaded SL 3 times emptied my dns cache uninstalled and reinstalled my nvidia driver and oh, yes, sent support 3 or 4 emails, all of which have gone unanswered. Can anyone advise me on what to try next, since it is obvious that I must figure this out on my own?? I would appreciate any and all help. Ceej

Have you tryed installing the update available from the SL website? If not, uninstall the version you have using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. After you complete that process, download the newest version (1.2.12 I believe) from the Secondlife.com website, it is Downloads > Second Life. Run that installer, it should fix it if it is really dealing with a DNS update problem.
The login process usually get stuck at Verifying Protocol Version when it cant find a connection to the internet. Try making sure your not running any active firewalls, or have SL's ports blocked.
Hope this helps!
