I'm using intel integrated extreme graphics, when I load up the game it says there is a known bug with the current driver for this card, and I should download an older driver. I go and download the recommended driver, install it, and reboot. When my computer restarts I'm stuck in 640x480 resolution and 4 color mode, and I'm not sure how to fix it. I tried setting the monitor to what my actual monitor is instead of just a generic plug and play, but my specific monitor (Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900u) isn't listed. I chose the closest one to that, but it didn't help. I'd really like to try this game out, but I'm not sure what to do. I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Thanks! Oh, and I tried running the game without switching drivers and it crashed. I got as far as the loading world or whatever screen and it went boom.

Well, your card isn't supported. However, i've actually gotten some Intel cards to work. Maybe you should uninstall your driver totally, letting it revert back to the default Microsoft driver? I don't really know...hopefully someone else will reply.

Being stuck in 640x480 is usually the result of not totally uninstalling the old driver. Best solution is to uninstall the old driver completely like James said. Use a generic Windows driver as a replacement. Then after rebooting, change to the "new" driver and reboot. That usually fixes the problem.

Id idn't uninstall the other driver at all, I just installed the new one over it. Um, pardon my stupidity, but how exactly do I uninstall the graphics driver and switch to a generic before installing the reccommended driver?

I got the driver installed correctly and the game will start/run. Unfortunately it looks horrible and is unbarably slow. I'm going to try putting some more memory in this machine, but beyond that I don't know what to do. i hate this machine.

More memory might help. Some more expensive, but useful options, would be a brand new graphics card (BE SURE TO REMOVE DRIVER BEFORE PUTTING IT IN! ) and a new processor.

i hate this machine. Well I was going to snatch the RAM from the other computer in the house. A new graphics card/processor/computer isn't really an option.

I also am running on Intel Extreme and often have lag problems.
You can pick good video cards for as low as $50 on half.com and other sites.

Similar probs - not anymore!

Dragon- I had similar problems as the graphics became deeper here. I have a DiamondScan monitor 22' as well. I ewnt to the office supply stores, computer stores, and watched sales papers for a Graphics card. I found 1 at BestBuy (nVidea gForce4 mmx 400) for 25$ - going out of stock! Ypu may also want to try Pricewatch.com Excellent $. Also there are all kinds of accelerators out there on the web, including an Intel application accellerator. Its a short term fix til Santa brings a new card. Oh, and more RAM fixes almost anything! Good luck!

I spent my first couple of weeks here using an Intel Extreme Graphics integrated chipset so it does work. In terms of performance you have two problems: the inherently slow performance of the intel chip and the fact that it steals system memory to use itself. So the OS and graphics card will end up fighting with one another over who gets to use all the RAM. Even a dirt-cheap stand-alone card will be much better than the intel chip because it uses faster memory and frees up system RAM for your OS and applications. I upgraded to a cheap Nvidia FX5200 which increased the performance of my system markedly. Although bump-mapping doesn't work which is a bit of a downer.

You really need at least 256 MB of RAM for SL. I recommend 1GB.
If you have an integrated video card, may use your system's video RAM, cutting it down. Check your video RAM usage. Depending on how much system RAM you were able to scrounge up, you should consider increasing your video RAM setting to 32-64MB. SL uses a lot of textures, and the more video RAM you have, the more textures you can see at once.
