I've been crashing every ten minutes trying to interact with the menu. I open my friends menu I crash. I try to build I crash. SL has become completely unusable for me. Everytime I've completely rezzed an object the texture immediately blurs again. What I want to know is if this is only a problem that macs are experiencing, because many of my pc friends have not been complaining about the same problems.

Also a Mac user, also similar problems. Not every time I click the menu, but when I do crash (many many times a day lately), its always because I clicked on a menu or a button.

Another posible similarity is that on my Mac, SecondLife 1.7 runs as if it has a memory leak!

While my PC friends have not seen the same behaviour, when I run SL on my laptop now, the thing just gets slower and slower (as the cache fills up), and eventually crashes when I click on something like a button.

When I get out of it, the Mac is in such a low memory condition, that the "Cmd-Opt-Esc" thing does not even work! All the other programs are frozen and the thing has to be rebooted. This behaviour is so close to a classic memory leak, that it's my belief that this is precisely the problem. Perhaps LL is just not saying anything about it until they can re-release the client next week.

Often there are bugs that afffect the macs that just dont seem to get addressed at all. For instance, a lot of Mac users get the "stutter bug" where everything jitters when you turn and the music stream stutters for a few seconds while everything freezes. I have been dealing with this since about half-way through the 1.6 releases I think and its still the same in 1.7. Drives me nuts and when its bad I have to just log off, but what can you do?

They will fix it when its a problem for someone important I guess. ;)

Caveat: Since LL gives very little feedback on this kind of thing, these conclusions are my own and based on anecdotal evidence, but if everyone you know on a certain machine has the same problem, it is "suggestive" at least, and in the absence of any real information from Linden Labs, people will of course draw their own conclusions.

Thank you for your response, especially the part about the memory leak. Lets hope this does not become one of the bugs that does not get fixed. Live help has been mostly silent on this issue, only telling me to clear my cache.

I have a Dual G5 Powermac and a 15 inch Powerbook and I haven't crashed once. Just thought I would add this in case it would help in fixing the problem, not to brag.

Also, I did a clean install on the Powerbook but not on the Dual G5. SL runs slower on the Powerbook, but I haven't crashed at all.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?

Now I'm falling through floors. Nice. This game is screwed up, lol.

I contacted livehelp again, now they're telling me its my network connection that's messed up. Right. I never had problems before this update.

The mac client is crashing when the cache fills. Set your cache to max ( 1 gig ) and log out and delete it regularly. Let's hope they fix this fast !

I have cleared my cache many times. It does not help with the crashes. I did a clean install and crashed ten minutes after I logged in.

And the ”funny” thing are that crash reporter are crashed to it are a blank not to use one.. must force to quit..

AND I had not this problem withthe version before... of course Sl crash but not in this way.. no fun.. are a nice word.-))

Huh. I'm not getting that. I'm using a Mac Mini, 512MB RAM, OS 10.4.

The only time I crash now (as opposed to many random crashes with 1.6) is when I'm editing textures. About 10% of the time when I assign a texture, BOOM. I can't kill crashreporter normally with Cmd-Opt-Esc, but Activity Monitor can see it and kill it.

I have a Mac Mini, OS 10.3.9, and SL 1.7.1(2). It's only crashed once for me since the last SL update. Still having other issues, such as textures constantly reloading, slow texture loads, and appearing like I'm squatting for no apparent reason. But as far as crashes go, it's been fairly stable.

on a pc, but theres no doubt theres a memory leak, i had peeks at 900-1200mb ram use on SL latly, thats not normal :p

Im one of those people who dont crash either (lucky!) but theres definatly something causing it, see what LL does next update:)

Using a 12" minimum spec Powerbook.

I crash often when opening Profile windows, and today I crashed every time I tried to upload a texture. As someone above said, pressing any type of blue button holds a crash risk right now.

...i've been getting the same memory leak sort of behavior on my own dual g5 macintosh since the 1.7.x upgrade...

...the amount of time between crashes varies, but through experimentation it's pretty evident that the interval is dependent upon how much of the world i've spooled into my machine during the intervening time, similar enough to a memory cache filling up...the actual crash always comes from pressing one of the blue buttons or using the menu to open a new window within SL and is accompanied by the sound of much hard disk thrashing before dumping me back out to the finder - where the crash reporter itself is locked up as well and i have to force quit it from the finder...

...i hope that linden labs is aware of and addressing this issue, as my fears are that since they're not receiving any reports from the associated crash reporter crashes, they might be oblivious to a widespread and crippling issue with the mac client...

Okay people, send bug reports. I'm sending one everytime I crash. I'm tired of mac issues being ignored.
