Does anyone know if SL will run with a 64 bit Vista OS?
ETA: Also will a Nvidia GEforce 9600gs work with SL?

Your dad the computer guy is right to be cautious, but he can rest assured that nearly all 32-bit software will run on Vista x64. With the exception of a couple of extremely obscure graphics apps that you've probably never heard of and would never use, I have yet to find a 32-bit program that won't work.
It's mostly hardware, not software, that's iffy. Before you make the commitment, I'd suggest you check all your peripheral hardware makers' websites for compatible drivers. External audio devices are the most common problem children, but printers and scanners can hit and miss as well.

Ya well I have decided to let him pick out the computer and ill dish out the money. Computers is what he gets paid major bucks for and I dont trust my judgment when it comes to computers.
He just wanted to make sure that those specs would work for SL as he went threw a site and compared builds of desktops.
But thanks so much for your advice. Very very much appreciated!!!!

If the computer is being custom built, then I'll throw out one last piece of advice. The 9600 is a mid-level graphics card. It will run SL, but not as well as a high end card like a 9800 will. With equal amounts of memory, there's only a about $30-60 average difference in price between the 9600GSO and any of the 9800's. If it's in your budget, I'd highly recommend getting a better card.
If you've got room for a 2-space card in the case, then a 9800GTX or 9800GTX+ would be a great investment. If you've only got room for a single space, then a 9800GT would be good.
Spec-wise, the 9800GT falls about half way in between the 9800GTX and the 9600GSO. It's the lowest performer of the 9800's, but still way better than any of the 9600's or below.

yes and yes. sl needs: opengl optinized hardware, that means Nvidia Geforce. lots of GFX dedicated ram. 512 for now, a front side bus as fast as possible. i saw 2 systems that were as similar as possible, exact same ammount of ram and same GFX card and MHZ CPU, but the small mainboards MHz difference had a HUGE effect in SL. as much RAM as pissible, ths is where a 64 bit os beats a 32 bit os, because 32 bit can only adress 2000 mb ram on the mainboards northbridge
