I signed up tonight. I was in the mood to have some real fun. Now, I log in for the first time and it crashes... no big deal. The second time... I think "this sucks, its slow - no reactivity...boring... crash..." WTF??? Am I on a bad trip or something??? It must be my computer its a HP 751n Pavilion with ASUS 650 chip set, I met the inital requirements, but the performance I'm living is crap...absolutely. Please tell me its my computers fault... as I'm really looking forward to SL.

I am not much of a techie and cant really offer advice. But, the minimum specs will probably yield the minimum experience. I think memory has a lot to do with how well SL runs, min is 256, I have 512 and wish I had a gig. But, I dont really know what Im talking about when it comes to specs. Hopefully someone will jump in here.

In the meantime, I would suggest reporting a crash bug and include all your system specs. Lindens are pretty good about responding to issues and should be able to help you with any system spec problems and offer solutions.

I hate mins, but I appreciate your post!

If I need a g--dam gig, then I need a g--dam gig! You know what I mean. Don't post mins that run Like hell, if they bloody run like hell. I'm pretty well flabergasted now. I'll leave it too the experts?????

I've run on both a gigabyte and 256MB. The full gigabyte is much nicer in built-up areas, but 256 is enough most of the time.

the 751n specs out like this (stock):

1.8ghz p4
256 mb DDR
sis650 integerated video w/ 32mb onboard.

theres the problem. video card. well lack there of. also, when you put one in check the AGP speed and your power supply, hp is known to run a minimal power supply in their cases.

the hog video cards required for this game will suck that thing dead.

oh yeah, ram wouldnt hurt. maybe bump to 512? go video first.

The 650 isnt a true 3D accellerator, most is emulated by the processor. The 651 is much better, but still a dodgy chip for video. Also rememeber your losing about ~64mb of ram to the shared video.

I personally would first:
- Get a nVidia 5600/5700 based card
- Get another 256 or 512MB of RAM.

I tend to recommend avoiding HP as a brand completely, they always have something critical that's missing, just so they can flash 'OMG IT HAS A FAST PROCESSOR', and not the fact that '... but it's missing a video card, so you wont be able to play new games - speed is a moot point.'

I bloody well knew it was this (HP) hunk of junk, but can't afford a shiny one at the mo. So, thank you for the suggestions. I will promptly get a new video card and more RAM it was needed anyway. Thanks again.

Well, it's not the ram. I played SL on 128MB RAM without a problem. I'd say it's the vid card. You can try lowering your draw distance and detail in prefrences. That should fix it!
