I have 2 laptops in front of me. I have 24 hours to decide which one to keep for when on travel for work. I'm able to run SL on both, but haven't had the opportunity to test SL extensively on either. Please tell me which to keep. Which has the best chance to still work with SL 6, 9, or 12 months from now:

Laptop #1 - Intel Core2 Duo 2 GHZ, 2GB Ram, Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M, Win XP.

Laptop #2 - Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 GHZ, 1 GB Ram, Mobile Intel 965 Express, Win Vista.

Basically it comes down to which is better in the following areas:

Nvidia Quadro vs Intel Express for Graphics

2 GB Ram vs 1 GB Ram

Win XP vs Vista

Please HELP me decide! Thanks! :-)

Personally, I'd go with the 2 gig memory and the nvidia graphics.

I'd say Laptop #1. SL will make use of the 2G RAM, and Nvidia has consistently outshined Intel for SL. That said, you may be interested in the following information:

1. This summer, Nvidia quietly recalled certain lots of a number of chips, and laptop manufacturers vary in what they're doing about it. The chipset in Laptop #1 has been mentioned as one of those where some chips were affected. See /327/40/274373/1.html#post2094196

You may want to contact the laptop manufacturer or Nvidia to see if your machine is affected, and what you can do about it.

2. I actually have a laptop with 512MB RAM and Intel Mobile Express 915M chipset, which shouldn't work AT ALL with SL ... but, with the help of Nicholaz's client, it does. Of course it gets a frame rate of 3-4 fps. But SL as well as Intel have been slowly improving the experience for Intel-based users.

Whichever you choose, use a cooling pad with it when running SL or any streaming video game. I use a $30 one that runs off of the laptop's USB port, and weighs nothing. Best $30 I ever spent.

BTW, if the laptop overheats consistently, I can tell you from sad experience that more often than not it is the RAM that goes first, and not the GPU. So, if your lappie begins to act just plain strange, that may be the issue.

#1 you can't beat the ram and the nvidia graphic's card. So long as you know that it's capable of running SL. Also make sure that you can upgrade that ram! 2g's is good. 4 is excellent.

Although windows XP or Vista will only find 3 gig of the 4 (unless 64 bit I think?).
