I have an Abit FX 5600 Ultra OTES video card. When it was first installed for the first few weeks it would pop up a window telling me that it wasnt getting enough power - but only when playing SL. And only if I had been afk for several minutes and the screen saver came on or something.
Now, that doesnt happen anymore at all. AND, I also hear the video card start spinning around when SL launches and I am inworld, whereas before, the video card would spin, and then after a while i wouldnt hear it, then i would get the pop-up window.
This pop-up window power warning problem ended with the 26th January 04 update.
What was in this update that keeps my video card going that wasnt in the previous version?
I can only assume something changed because things just dont fix themselves.

Hi Hi Maxx Maxx!

From: someone Originally posted by Maxx Monde Bri, you saying that you are hearing a fan sound 'spinning up' when you play SL, but not when running anything else? There's a possibility that the fan header on the motherboard just quit, if it is hooked up that way. It isn't a big deal, but perhaps that is why you are getting those messages..
I can try to help in-world if you get a chance...I'm not too sure about the model as you have it stated in your post. Ok, well, I actually understand what you said. However, my motherboard does not have a fan because its in a sub-zero special case ( www.vapochill.com). The video card has this giant fan exhaust looking thing....its really huge with a big clear plastic cover over half the card that tapers into a vent - sort of looks like something off a motorcycle. But the good thing is that since Jan 26th, i no longer get the lack of power window. I dont know what happened, but i do know things do not fix themselves. Briana

Is the 5600 the one that requires its own connection to the power supply?

LF Apparently, that 5600 OTES card has one of those huge freakish cooling fans and an external power connector. I hope they used a quieter fan. I read that the earlier fans made lots of noise.
