Before I send my brand new graphics card back to the manufacturer for replacement, is this a bug/glitch in SL? I do not have this problem in any programs other than SL, even in highly graphic-intensive game programs. The depixellations appear at random on all types of textures/objects/avatars. In addition, friends can see the depixellations on my avatar skin and clothing as well, also at random times and locations. Any help/suggestions are gratefully appreciated.

if friends see it to it isn't your GPX card. I have never seen this though and I have a lot of bugs with GPX...hmmmm have you searched Jira yet? what are your specs and OS etc.

I've been having this same issue for months now, and there's a report to the JIRA about it here (I think it's the same issue, the pictures aren't that clear):

FWIW, here is the response from LL regarding the support ticket I filled out:

We have solved your issue
Solution:

This does look like an issue with your graphics card. This happens when there is a problem with the memory of the graphics card. This also explains the issue regarding your avatar. Your avatar textures are created with the help of your graphics card. The textures are downloaded to your system and with the help of the Graphics card baked into one texture and then uploaded and applied to your avatar.
Best is to got to the manifacturer and ask for a replacement if it is still in warantly.

Update on Depixellation Issues

Curiouser and curiouser...

I returned my graphics card and replaced it with another brand new one. The depixellation appears to be gone from random objects and just about everything else except ONE thing, my skin. I still have the greenish square patches all over and they are viewable by others as well, not just myself.

In talking to people, I have heard of this happening to others. The explanation I was given is that for some reason, at some times, SL somehow corrupts the texture of the skin and "absorbs" one of the textures in the surroundings. I was told to try putting on a tattoo layer or a pair of gloves and for some bizarre reason, that WORKS! As long as I wear my tattoo, no more depixellations. As soon as I take the extra layer off, the depixellations return. WTH???

I assume the skin you're wearing is one you bought, and not a default avatar skin?

Do you still see the pixelation if you wear a different skin? If you only have the one, there are more in your library that you could try.

If the pixelation goes away when you wear a different skin, then you need a different copy of the skin you want. Most bought skins are copiable - if you still have the original box you got it in, you can probably just re-rez that and get another copy.
