Are there plans to speed up the Mac client of SL ? I have a 6 month old Powerbook and a 3 year old PC, and the PC client runs way smoother than the Mac client (PC gets about 30-60 fps, Mac struggles to get 5-10). I have both mahines setup pretty much the same and the Mac has a newer graphics card...

Thanks.

The mac sl client kind of new, and it take a while to develop a 3d programs, and usually twice as long to debug the programs. That said, i've been a beta tester for shadow-bane, clanlords, and a few others video games. Allot of them never improve. I have the highest hope sl will continue to develop and improve their mac client. At a reasonable speed. I'm just not holding my breath.

Well, if it helps, I wish it was faster, too. I'm running SL on a 1.4 Ghz G4 with tons of ram and it gets maybe 10 fps if I'm lucky. SL is so fun, though, that I stick with it. It would be much, much more fun if it was faster....

Wow, I want that PC!
I've never had a constant fps over about 20-25, on a 2.6GHz PC with a gig of DDR and a GeForce FX...
Usually it's around 10fps, sometimes a lot lower.

Well, I can't be absolutely positive it's getting 30 as opposed to 25, but it is pretty smooth. My PC is a dual Athlon 1800XP with a gig of RAM and a 15000 rpm SCSI HD.

Although saying that, the Mac version seems waaay more stable than the PC one. The PC version never seems to run for more than a few minutes without the teleport stuffing up and me being unable to move in the game. ho-hum. I'll stick with the Mac version for now. :)

Maybe the fact you have dual processors is helping... I really don't know with respect to SL, or maybe it's the high speed hard drive?

Somehow I doubt it's the client.

25 was a peak for me... 10 is more common, and 3-5fps isn't that unusual.

I know the sl clients lag eveyr time it need to spin up the hard drive to access some thing. BTW What speed ram, what video card do you have, and what motheor bord, and if it has a front side buzz what speed is it over clocked to?
