Once SL, very weird lines.

Hi everyone, I am new to Second Life and I am encountering some difficulty's. I have just recently installed the game SL, I log in, but once loading bar appears I get some very strange graphic bug and I can't see a thing!! It's just different coloured lines flashing. Here is a couple screen shots to show you what's happening.

My PC is fast enough duelcor 2.3ghz, Ati graphics card. 8600 I think and 1Gb ram. Clean pc with no viruses or spyware and my drivers are up to date. I play video games which require higher requirements than SL. I have set the graphics to LOW and restarted the game and my PC, but still no change Any help please? Thanks.

This an extremely common issue with ATI hardware. Go into your SL preferences -> Graphics -> Hardware Options, and disable Vertex Buffer Objects.
