Hi,
I'm working in Poser 4 and trying to export BVH files for upload into SL. I get the following message:
"Failed to initialize motion. Make sure you have at least two frame of animation data."
I'm working with a P2 lo poser figure - as I've read elsewhere that that seemed to help other people upload sucessfully. But still no luck.
Any ideas?
Am I not animating properly in Poser? I just set a pose, skip ahead a few keyframes, set another pose, etc etc. Poser fills in the 'missing' keyframes with animation when I press play.
Please tell me I don't have to animate every little movement frame by frame?
Thanks for the help, Omen

I get this, too. The animations worked fine on the preview, but, they don't work on the main grid now. Hopefully they'll figure it out and patch.

I'm glad I'm not the only one...
I wanted to cry when I discovered I couldn't upload the animations I'd made for the preview.
Oddly enough, one of my friends on the preview managed to upload two of them to the main grid... I have no clue how it worked and we can't get it to do it again.

I had a few work fine doing it the exact same way you did. I started to get more complicated and this error started to appear.

I don't know why Linden (or anyone else) haven't published how to make and import BVH's from Poser. It's actually pretty easy (when you know how (as always, eh?))
Here's the steps that I use to make a working pose. There may be a better way, if you know one, please let us know.
1. Prepare a two frame animation by entering 2 in the total frame count at the bottom.
2. On frame 1, load the standard standing figure. I use a Poser2 female. (Save this pose on a Poser Dot so you can find it again easily).
3. On frame 2, make your custom pose.
4. Expand the number of frames to 3, by entering 3 in the total frame count at the bottom. This will make frame 2 and frame 3 identical. Also all three frames will be keyframes, which is important !
5. Export the animation to BVH
6. At the import window in SL, tick the Loop box, and make Out(%) 100. Select other parameters like Hand Pose, Expression e.t.c. as appropriate and Upload.
7. Done.
This I found out after seeing som info on the forums on <cough> SLUniverse.com

Hi, I've been having the same problem..this sounds interesting ill have to try it when I get home, now since there are only 3 frames..does SL automatically interpolate the model in the keyframes that would normally be in between frames 1 and 3? I generally make my poses 5-10 frames apart and let poser do the middle work, I havent had an animation I've tried to upload that was more than 20 yet, but al have failed .thanks.. -Ryltar From: someone Originally posted by Raphael Rutherford I don't know why Linden (or anyone else) haven't published how to make and import BVH's from Poser. Well something has changed. I can now get as far as the actual preview. Where I see the nude figure. But when I hit play, her legs twitch a bit, and that's it. There's no actual motion anywhere near what I was animating in poser.
I've tried this so many different ways, with various different poser figures (P2 hi and lo, male and female - nude, dressed, even P1 figures).
But no luck yet. Although getting to the preview screen now is somewhat hopeful. As I see I'm getting closer.
Maybe my Poser work is the problem. Is there a tutorial yet for this?
I've seen some posts on the 3 keyframe animation for just doing a 'pose.' (Tried it too, didn't work). But haven't seen anything that clearly lays out how to do a full scale animation from poser. (Is my ver. of poser the problem? Poser 4)
Thanks, Omen

Which version of Poser are you using? Poser 3 requires some manual tweaking of the .BVH file before you can upload it. If you don't make the changes, it produces the "twitches" you describe.

I'd like to report that it's working fine for me now. I'm able to upload animations, and they work in-world. I assume that there was some glitch that was fixed in 1.4.2. Sorry to those who are still having issues.

Like manually going into the BVH file and messing around in there with 3rd party software? Omen

I just know Poser 3, since that's the version I've got. By "tweaking", I mean opening the file in Notepad and changing the names of some of the body parts.
