Hi everyone :)

Have a bit of a problem concerning graphics and SL. My previous desktop had a ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe board with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX card. Apart from the usual lag I ran SL with little to no problems, especially when it came to the graphics.

My new desktop is an HP with unkown board but it has an AMD Phenom II X4 with 8GB of DDR3 and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card with 512MB. Both units had the latest version of the Emerald viewer but now not only is SL super laggy and slow, but my graphics are a complete mess. Spikes of color are popping out of everything everywhere and sometimes its so bad I have to log off. I've actually gone back to using my old unit to log inworld but I'm curious to know what the problem is.

My old unit runs Windows XP SP2, while my new one runs Windows 7. Yes, I've gone into properties and changed the compatibiliy but that still doesn't help. Should I consider switching the video cards? Is the NVIDIA better than the ATI? Because if it is I'll go ahead and make the switch but I would like some feedback before I start tearing units apart.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

NVidia cards tend to have one less major issue that ATI cards seem to have. Go to your preferrences before you log in and on the graphics tab click on "hardware". Uncheck enable Vertec Buffer Objects (VBO).

That usually fixes the problem you are discribing but it always could be some other problem.

Thanks Peggy, your suggestion seems to have done the trick. I'm so relieved now that I don't have to tear my units apart.

I really do appreciate all your help.

Take care. :)
