SL just doesn't start anymore

My PC is a 2007 Aluminium iMac with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro (but stated as ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT under Windows XP where i prefered to run SL because it runs faster). So i am writing in this forum part and not in the Mac one, because i am - like stated above - having a Windows XP related problem.

With the original Apple drivers for the Graphics card i got always glowing avatars, so i used a tool called mobility modder which makes it possible to use the regular Catalyst Drivers and update my graphic card on my own and not just when apple wants me to do.

From this point SL ran fairly well with no problems. Unfortunately the Catalyst 9.2 Drivers were the last i could use. With newer Drivers SL just didn't start up anymore. The next time i tried to open it it just said it crashed.

No problem at all, i stayed at the 9.2-Drivers. Then I upgraded to the 9.6 drivers and again it didn't work. I guess at that point it started that SL couldn't even run with the 9.2 ones. I tried everything. I even reinstalled Win XP on my iMac and SL still doesn't run with the regular Catalyst-Drivers. I just get the following error-message:

"Secondlife is unable to run because your videocard drivers did not install properly, are out of date or are for unsupported hardware. please make sure you have the latest video card drivers and even if you do have the latest, try to reinstall them."

I just don't get know why it doesn't run anymore. I completely deleted the windows-partition from the HDD and still it doesn't work. Does anybody know what could be wrong?

(Sorry for my not-so-perfect english, i am no native speaker)

Your writing style strikes me as native English.

I think there might be a way to tell SL to ignore the apparent problem and attempt to run anyway.

You could try adding

-noprobe

to the SL shortcut target field, at the end of the line, with a space in front of the - at the beginning of -noprobe

Thanks for the tip. Tried it out and still doesn't work.
I looked up into one of the Logfiles and found out that it might be a missing or wrong Logicboard (motherboard) driver. Will try to find one.

I don't know anything about MACs, but this message on a PC often means that you did not uninstall the previous graphics driver before installing a different one. That can leave messiness behind in your registry that SL picks up on.

On XP, the process to fix this would be:

1. Uninstall whatever graphics driver you now have.

2. Reboot. In fact, power off/reboot.

3. Install new graphics driver.

4. Delete your local SL cache. In XP the folder is (delete the whole thing):
C:\ Documents and Settings\ < your userid > \ Application Data \SecondLife\ cache

5. Reboot.

6. Try SL.

If that does not get rid of the error message, then try the whole process again, but after step 1 above, run something like Driver Cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) to clear out your registry.

Good luck!

I just install Windows Vista 32 - Bit on my dell Inspiron E1505 after I got a larger hard drive.
I went to dells drivers download and downloaded the recommended video and audio drives and I'm still getting this message ......

"Second life is unable to run because your video card drivers did not install properly, are out of date or are for unsupported hardware. please make sure you have the latest video card drivers and even if you do have the latest, try to reinstall them."
