Email support@secondlife.com with your system specs and the exact steps you took to crash. :)

If it's a weekend, expect to have to wait until Monday for an answer, as LL keeps the usual business hours.

It's almost certainly either your drivers (or BIOS) or your network connection. Virtually all SL's crash issues or unusual performance problems (IE, those not obviously caused by older hardware) can be traced to a driver or networking issue. Incredible but true!

What motherboard, CPU, video card, RAM and sound card do you have? What type of internet connection do you have, and what type of LAN do you have between your computer and the wall? Is it wireless?

What versions of your BIOS, motherboard chipset, audio and video drivers are you using? What version of DirectX are you running?

Is your system overclocked? (CPU, RAM, video, all of the above?) Is it adequately cooled? What wattage is your power supply?

Updating your BIOS voids your warranty? Ouch! That's likely the problem right there, but I'd have to see your system to be sure.

What's the specific model of your motherboard?

what does "new drivers" mean? Give up the version , please...and where you got it as well.

also, updating the BIOS voids the warranty?? LOL...if it's THAT old you're out of warranty anyway....

flash it if you know how and it's available, but ONLY if you know how. I and others can help you with that if you don't.

do a sysinfo and spill...maybe we could see somethin obvious...

I'm having the same problem right now, actually. I was at Misty's raffle, and someone res'd a huge monkey, so I decided to log out. When I logged back on, Second Life crashed either ~60% through the inventory download, or it would get all of the way through, tell me that my inventory was still downloading and not to change anything, and then crash.

My Specs:
17" Apple PowerBook
1 GHz G4 Processor
1 GB RAM
NVidia GeForce4 MX (64 MB VRAM)

Gah, I'm going to miss Second Life. ;_;

I can't offer you much advice, unfortunately... the Mac version really only runs on about a dozen different hardware combinations, so it's relatively easy for them to diagnose. Did this problem start with a recent patch, or was it just sudden? (I know it's a Mac and everything, but you HAVE rebooted, right?)

Either way, submit a bug report and the Lindens will get back to you on Monday.

I just started playing Second Life yesterday, so it's only happened with the latest version. I did manage to get back on, and enjoyed a few hours worth of play, then I had to sign off for a bit. Right now I'm trying to get back on and the same problem is happening, but I'm sure I'll be able to connect properly soon.

On another note, I filed two bug reports; one for when the crash occurred halfway through the inventory download, and another report when it gave me the "Your inventory is still downloading"-crash instance.

Oh! When you say you used Windows Update, do you mean that you're not running Nvidia's video drivers?

If not, get them here: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/56.72/56.72_winxp2k_english_whql.exe

And if you're on a wireless network, does it work if you plug in directly to the router?

Uh, yeah, that's a good point. Heh. If you're consistently crashing while downloading inventory, a corrupt cache can be to blame. Uninstalling and reinstalling SL usually fixes it.

Did uninstalling and reinstalling SL fix it? Are you on a wireless LAN?

I have only just started second life and I'd really like to try it, but I can not even get started at all. It gets half way through the log in and crashes.

I guess I'll wait until Monday to see if it can be fixed easily. So much for the first three days of the free trial. I might not have enough time to try it out before I have to deside if I'm going to pay or not.

JerBar - I took a quick look through your crash reports - it looks like you'll need to update both your nVidia drivers and your motherboard drivers, as well.

BigMike - I think you may have a similar issue - you also appear to be running with fairly stale drivers.

Take a look at the information on the following links - be warned - they're quite out of date, I need to get them updated.

Hope that helps you out, some - as always, contacting support@secondlife.com is your best bet for help.

Doug The Reason the drivers appear the way they do is because i had tried it with diffrent drivers although ill make sure everything is completly updated. Will post results.

UPDATE: This is what i did to get it to work

I completly Uninstalled all pervious versions of the video drivers and proceded to install the newest ones from Nvidia's site.

--> http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Click Graphics driver then what card you need and download the newest ones (56.72)

While i can't garuntee it will work for the others i know it worked for me.

with Nvidia it's usually a good idea to uninstall your old driver before you upgrade anyway. It used to be damn near mandatory, though it's not QUITE as much of an issue now.
