Mac users, please try out preview

We have a bunch of Mac fixes in the SL preview build, so please check it out and report bugs if you find them.

Some of the graphical glitches are (unfortunately) waiting on Apple/ATI/NVidia. More details as we get them.

I've been playing with SL since just before the 1.2 switch, and I've never seen really great framerates, usually around 15. This is disappointing as I uave a dual 2GHz G5 with a Radeon 9800 Pro. Tonight I finally got in to try the preview, and my framerates are at least double what I've seen before, usually higher. I don't know if connecting to less heavily loaded servers makes a difference, but even when waiting for prims to appear the whole experience was much smoother. If this is what 1.3 will be like for real, I can hardly wait.

The preview may also have resolved an annoying UI bug when editing prims: sometimes when editing, only the first two decimal digits of the position would be visible (e.g. 123.456 would show "123.45", and dragging to select that position from right to left would only hightlight those digits. Type with that highlighted and the last digit would be appended, usually resulting in a position greater than 512, and often making the prim zip off to the other side of the sim. I wasn't able to duplicate that problem with the preview (though if I try to move the cursor past the end of a position field, the view jumps to the right and displays only the decimal part, not necessary as the whole position can be displayed at once).

Why the limitation on account age?

Is the preview only active sometimes? What gives? Why can't there be a full explanation of this stuff on the preview page? This stuff is fascinating -- give me more information through official channels so I don't have to troll around the forums all the time.

As I understand it, the limit (March 10) is because they took a "snapshot" of the live game avatars at that moment (including inventories). When I log into the Preview I do not have any of the neato stuff I've made recently and my Av looks a lot less "finished" (back when I didn't quite get how facial features should lol LOL)

The Preview is active all the time, however there aren't always a lot of Av's in it. They asked for a lot of Av's last night because they wanted to test it's reliability. We were asked to take out every scripted object we had and play havoc with the sim. Great fun, things exploding, things flying around, more watermelons than you can shake a summer squash at! And we were successful in shutting down the sim!

What a bummer that we're so many time zones apart!
Tonight I was unable to log on because I was told a new version was available, and when I said yes to the download, an error occurred. It said to go to the website, but I found no mention of an update. I'm on version 1.3.2, using Mac OX 10.3.3.
The world is beautiful. I've been waiting for the Mac version and I'm thrilled. What fun it is to fly...
