What file format are the WAV files? I have a raw wave file that is 25 meg that I need to convert for use with SL but I'm not sure what format I need to make it. Then of course I need to reduce its size and also cut it up into 10 second chunks.

I'm pretty certain they are supposed to just be PCM data at 44.1kHz/16bit. I know "CD quality" is accepted, possibly other sample rates and bit depths but I haven't tried. The wav files you select to upload are then compressed with ogg vorbis and sent to the server.

Microsoft's Sound Recorder is great for chopping up and saving sounds in acceptable format.

hrm..I didn't know they are converted to oggs online. I have it in ogg format already and changed it to wav. Too bad I just can't upload the ogg file! Does each segment have to be 10 seconds to use it on a music player device? I converted it from 44100hz 16 stereo to 6500hz 8bit stereo.

Best bet is to try and upload a WAV file in an incorrect format (I tried 22KHz 8bit once) and it will deny you and tell you exactly what the correct format is that it wants

Must wave files be broken up into 10 second segments for use in objects?

It wants 44.1KHz 16bit mono OR stereo files (you should be using mono, as it's half the size to upload and stereo doesn't make any sense in SL).
The commonly used music player scripts want 10 second chunks, except the last chunk which can be smaller. You should also keep in mind that massive preloading of sounds can be quite annoying to people that just fly over your land and get slapped with 30 soundstreams they never wanted :) |

to answer all your questions...
1. Cool MP3 spliter 2. The Lindens set the limit to 10 seconds so that we don't upload full songs and such (kinda works) 3. And I upload sound effects in 8bit mono, less time to upload less time to load in the game! 4. Yes getting 105 sounds in QUEUE is really annoying! (COME ON 1.3!) _____________________

I am have trouble finding a spliiter that runs automatically! I found several but all so far require me to manually enter the time for each break
