I just downloaded the new update today but my interface has gone berserk. movements are no longer accurate at all and the user inerface does not respond as instructed or anticipated. My avatar is running amok in 2nd life since she is not moving according to the commands.

Also the locations in-world no longer move/change as before = smoothly from scene to scene - they seem to jerk along and take a long time to recompose when moving from place to place. Views/sight angles have become unstable as well.

Flight is also problemmatic - for example i cannot select to fly and must teleport to get to various sites. Basically I am pretty stuck since i cannot get around well - its frustrating.

I am running winXP on a laptop (dell x-200, 800 megs, 256K, 30 gigs) with dsl connection. could it be that my machine is not powerful enough to run the program any more?

I have tried rebooting several times but it jams up after a few in-world locations. Maybe its a bad install?

If anyone has any suggestions for a fix please let me know with in the forum or via email.
p.s. - i also tried to find the learning center which was referred to in the user guide - cant find it. (ollie, ollie oxen free!).
thanks for any help you can offer.

Sounds like lag. There have been TONS of lag issues in game since the 20th. Hopefully someone with an answer or a linden (or both ;) will post. :)

Hmm, you may be simply suffering performance issues because of RAM usage or configuration issues.

Try doing the following in the Preferences/Display Panel (accessible at the login screen):

Disable AGP
Disable Shadows

Disabling both of those may make things run a bit smoother, sometimes, and both of them will decrease RAM usage.

Both can be toggled on and off in-world as well, so you can check that way.

Let me know if that works for you...

New version
01-23-2003 11:49
Yet another version (third this week) has been released.

Side note: we are really sorry that we need to force everyone to download new versions, but the fixes that we are making affect everyone, not just one viewer.

So, by requiring everyone to update their software, we are able to isolate "new" bugs after fixing "old" ones, and we don't spend time backtracking on bugs that have been fixed. Make sense?

Thanks for your patience. Go programmers.

Is any work or consideration being put into an auto patcher?

no need to apologize to us!

We LOVE new builds! We're all on broadband here, so spending a minute downloading and installing a new client isn't a problem for us. =)

If there WERE a problem, I'd have to say it's that the new builds don't remember the settings from the previous build, so we have to spend time telling it to use windowed mode, don't show my own name, show others' names only temporarily, etc.

Gee, that adds another whole minute to the process.

Now you've just gone TOO FAR, Lindens!

Hmm, have you tried running in a window and seeing if it gets any further?

We don't think that we've made any changes between 0.3.0 and 0.3.2 that would have had any impact on startup (we think)...

No, I haven't.. and honestly, I'm not sure how I'd do that. Do I just right click on the Icon & select that option from the list? I'll try to figgure it out.

This is essentially the same crash behavior I reported to Peter a couple of days ago (he has some screen grabs I made, donno if they were of any help, of the crash messages) except that instead of happening later in my SL session, it seems to preempt the session completely now.... Story of my life.

Just incase I turn out to be completely inept it this endeavor, plz tell me how to launch the client in a window.

Thx

Ahh, that's right. You're crashing before you can access the preferences panel... :)

Let's see...

Try the following:

Edit your shortcut, and add the following:

-set FullScreenOn FALSE

so it looks something like:

"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\newview.exe" -user 63.211.139.100 -set FullScreenOn FALSE

Also, if you could send us the SecondLife.log file (now located in you user application directory, e.g.

C:\Documents and Settings\doug\Application Data\SecondLife\SecondLife.log

after it crashes, that would be helpful as well.

Ok, new development... I couldn't figure out the window spawn thingy, so I reinstalled and there was a problem with one of the .DLL files,, something about Water.. donno,, like a dorkus I clicked whatever button I had to to keep the install moving. so I re-installed again, & there was no mention of said .DLL

Naturally I couldn't get in before hours of op, but I did make it all the way to the point where SL client sez "Come back later when we are open" or whatever.

I'd like to suggest that the next version write a plaintext logfile in the directory that the client installer resides as the NFO flys by too fast to read during the install process.

anyways, I think I'm good, but I'll know for sure later on this evening... unless I have a date, then all bets are off till Sunday night.

Thx

Ah thats what it is...Thanks for the command line switch for staying out of full screen. Handy for when the client gets updated, and not having to execute it 2 times b4 login..:-)
